It feels weird, author brings up new characters while acting like we, readers, should know everything about them, but we don't, so it just feels like endless confusion. Some books use that technique to make readers interested, then explain everything later, but there are no explanations in the horizon
Hmmm true but I love analysing stories like these . So my theory is that jaques is the contractor who payed the MC’s ex friends to make ML fall in love with MC so that he’ll turn into a mermaid. And they can take advantage of the ML.

This isn't even fast development, this is just author saying "i want you all to create the whole process of them starting to know and like each other yourselves, in your minds, because I don't want to do it myself"

He even raised the red flag of bad quality by saying that the main character is amusing, BUT in this manga he actually meant it and it was something that suited his personality?!
