If he did r*pe him that makes Doha make even less sense than he already did. Because if something like that happened or even almost happened, shouldn’t that make it even easier to completely cut ties with that shitty family and just live his life?
And then Doha is the dummy who convinced Bom to take the job, he didn’t even want to take, knowing it was his family company. It makes no sense. Where is his brain?!!!!!
I don’t think it’s that easy, especially with Asian family dynamics. My parents have been through a lot in their families and you don’t get to just “cut them off”. We can all see Doha is trying his best to distance himself and that’s probably the most he can do at least for now.
I do understand that, but in his case, he was barely ever really a part of the family. He’s not even publicly acknowledged as part of the family, he’s not involved in the family business, he’s a fully grown adult and he doesn’t need their financial support, so I don’t see the difficulty.
He’s only ever been a punching bag to the father, so I can’t see that he holds any affection for him, maybe the brother because he was good to him at one point, but I think he’s gone way far enough over the line at this point for that to no longer matter.
I understand that it can be hard to break ties with family even when they’re abusive, for various reasons, but in Doha’s case I can’t think of even one reason why he would want or need to continue to have anything to do with his absolute trash brother or father.
I mean virtually you are right about all that, but humans are not very practical and we come with a lot of internal baggage. Bro could’ve been in a surreal realm the entire time because of trauma. He might’ve developed a dependency, probably feels as if he can distance himself like he’s trying to, but not completely cut them off bc of familial ties. The older brother is also quite manipulative, and you never know his next move. The end of this chapter was essentially a thread to Doha, so cutting ties would kinda be dangerous. I would say Doha’s actions aren’t the best but it’s not unexpected and it’s not entirely his fault. A lot of it couldn’t be avoided. It’s like abusive and toxic relationships. People are always asking “why didn’t you leave?” But you don’t stay because you want to, psychologically, mentally, emotionally, it’s not that simple, even to see what’s real.
His dad and brother are powerful influential people. Even if Doha is an adult, it will be very hard to cut ties with his kind of family especially when they want to keep him there.
It's not unheard of for rich families to use their money in shady things, so it will be very easy for them to find Doha even if he leaves. It'll be easy to threaten him. To hurt him. To destroy the lives of people who help him like Bom.
Doha knows this. So even if he knows it's detrimental to keep in touch with his brother, he probably thinks it's better to stay so at the very least, he'll be near/in the sphere and there's a higher chance he'll find out what his bro's planning, or his presence will be a deterrent for him to do shady shit, or it will be easier to react when he decides to use the people he cares for against him.
This kind of behavioral response is actually prevalent in domestic abuse victims irl. It's not like they don't cut ties with their abusers because they don't want to. It's complex. All the more complicated when they have people they want to protect whom their abusers can also hurt.
The brother possibly r*ping Doha (I really hope not tho), doesn't make it easier to leave tbh. I'm sure you mean that Doha will WANT to leave him more and yes he probably really wants to but it's never that easy. Victims of incestuous r*pe irl have a really hard time leaving their situation, even talking about it, to the point that the SA happens more times than the first.
Doha... has been shown so far to have no support system (he has Bom now but the r*pe must have occured in their time in the States). Wouldn't be surprised if his brother isolated him more there. So it would be harder for him to leave his situation. I think he can financially support himself by working but this ain't just a matter of financial support after all.
I'm sure most of the issues with this were due to it being cancelled prematurely and the author not being able to fully see it through to the end, but they did a very bad job of wrapping this up. The author set up this whole set of obstacles to the main couples relationship throughout the story then all of a sudden all of those obstacles magically disappeared and they made it seem like the only obstacle they ever faced was accepting each other. If that's the case what the hell was any of the rest of the story about?! What about the class issues? The royal family? Licht being the crown prince and therefore needing to continue the family line? The fact that Jooin is a beta and commoner? None of it is resolved, instead the author pretends none of it was ever an issue even though, that is what all of the conflict in the story is about until the very end. If all it took was for them to accept each other, they made their feelings clear way earlier in the story, so why did the story continue if there was nothing more to it? This started out well and I wish the author could have told the whole story, but this ending is just laughable and now it all feels like a waste of time.
