a bit obsessed with seeing him struggle with himself lol. he wants her BAD. and i love the fl so dearly… she’s so outgoing, cute, n brave. ml can hold her at an arm’s length all he wants but i know the truth. i’ll admit that an irl situationship kinda sucks but i live for the fictional push and pull

i’ve never read a shoujo with a love triangle more indecisive… every time i thought it was certain az was endgame, things would swing to sett, and vice versa. like in this last arc, i was leaning towards sett because of his unwavering support towards nina (and also bc tbh i prefer him lmao). but i see now how they’re setting az up for an antagonistic character arc - one that only nina could save him from. which, narratively speaking, is interesting, but also kinda devastating as a sett/nina enjoyer. my hopeful bet is that nina saves az out loyalty and devotion for her first love, but ultimately chooses the man who chose her at her lowest point… i don’t think i can bear to see her pick az over sett fr T_T

but i think nasu has a good chance of becoming endgame… if u read through the manga critically, ran’s heart often sways towards nasu, wanting to see him. the fact that they r secret online friends seals the deal for me personally.
in general, i think this manga treats psuedo-incest with more depth than other shoujo manga. Hear Me Out. the nuclear family is a structure that many people use to take advantage of young kids, especially orphans in the foster care system. kaya’s understanding of “family” is twisted, and he perpetuates the cycle of abuse by pressuring ran to abandon everyone else but him. ofc i don’t see him as a full-on abuser… he’s a young kid who has never really had a decent role model in his life. but the fact remains that he is very controlling. i don’t ship them, i just feel very broken-hearted towards them b/c it just feels like two naive kids desperately trying to keep each other happy and okay.
anyways i think that’s why ran/nasu will has a good chance. ran tolerates kaya’s affections because of she has a soft spot for him, but she yearns for nasu. and narratively, it’d show more character growth for ran to stand up for herself and accept her crush on nasu, despite breaking her promise to kaya. it’d be more interesting for kaya too, to learn a healthier meaning of “family.”
in conclusion: if ran/kaya end up being endgame i’m going to end it all.

that scene where ‘hikaru’ lightly consumes yoshiki into his body was so intimate and horrifying lol. i will always love the metaphor of a monster - a representation of a selfish, exploitative affection that masks itself as love. ‘hikaru’ striving to love unselfishly despite his natural instincts. yoshiki desperately clinging on to that which haunts him. like ok!!!! the homoeroticism of feeling tender for the monster that wears your friend’s skin!! yoshiki prob felt like an outcast when he first realized he was gay for hikaru but now his feelings have sublimated into being affectionate for a literal monster. terrible. ironic. truly captures the spirit of a gay kid coming of age LOL. i’ve never read anything more deeply romantic but maybe i’m just a freak
love the natural progression of it all like. they’re acting like a couple and doing couple-like things, but leaving it all unsaid even tho it’s clear they like each other… kinda obsessed with how the mangaka is just letting them toe this flirty line. it’s like the best part of dating!!! most shoujo would have had some kind of angst or confession or rando third party to make one of them jealous by now. it’s hard to make a healthy couple feel so compelling imo and i love it in this story <3
