Someone once reviewed the series and explained Anya has the power but not a high enough intelligence stat to utilize it to its full capacity. She knows to keep it a secret and she is learning how to bluff, like she did in the card game where the other children have no tangible evidence of cheating (she's just morally aligned to take it seriously.) I can see a mind reader, if they aren't driven crazy, requiring patience and skill points in tactics to make the best move.
Desmond is very used to people approaching him with desires and Lloyd may not have "thought" of his faction when thinking about his mission, making him more appealing to take a watch and wait stance against to gleam that information. Desmond can hide it very well, though he married an intelligent woman; with enough time spent together, it was inevitable she would catch onto something. And if not with him, then with their first son. Clearly something happened there that she feels detached from both her boys.
We don't know yet if it's genetic or surgical. If it is genetic, when does it manifest? Could Damien become a mind reader? I think that would be very interesting for it to come up and have Anya guide him through with her laissez-faire attitude. But it is clear his older brother is a mind reader: when we see him on the school grounds, he "let's" Anya read his mind after she experiences some pushback. I don't know if he figured out it was her though, since the interaction was brief. The Desmonds see it as a tool while to Anya, it is a unique thing about herself that isn't any different than her unique parents.
I just hope we put off Desmond finding out that Anya has the same power because that would be a more immediate concern for him to take care of. Thus, it is a good thing she still keeps this from her parents.

Anya has mind reading abilities but Bond has dream predictions. There are other types of psychics in sxf world. So Desmond doesn’t necessarily have the same power as Anya. hope he doesn’t have this specific mind reading ability though That would make him harder to defeat.
