Against many canonical odds, the way that the new trainee arc was handled somehow managed to add a truckload more depth into the three recruits while also making Kiyoung look a little less like womanizing scum.
In the og novel, Ahyoung and Kiyoung have a fake cheating affair to make her bastard partner jealous, and Changryeol just kind of.. joins the guild in the background. There’s little spotlight placed on them (especially after this arc, the exception being Han Sora) despite being fresh characters, but this manhwa development sets them up for interest and interaction.
The attention to detail in these arcs (especially the newest one) is just so enjoyable. Even little things like Dialugia wanting to trade her horn in for the baby dragon rearing set managed to find its way into the manhwa, like Easter eggs for novel readers!
So, as someone who somehow managed to love the light novel, this is one of the rare situations where the manhwa did it better!
I reread this to see if it would ignite the same passion, and holy. Past the quick beginning lies storytelling that has genuinely moved me; "I always had been calling that person teacher”. It looks so deceptively shallow the way it’s first introduced but the Spain+Blood Wedding arc is one of my favourites through media.
