I feel like part of the inspiration for the unnecessary incest is very reminiscent of Vampire Knight lmfaoo I remember watching that as a clueless tween going through the five stages of grief as the author decided to make them DIRECT fully blood related siblings for NO reason like:

stage 1 “oh, that’s a bit gross that they’re step siblings haha but like at least they’re not related and he’s probably going to be a protective brother figure or something, the other dude has white hair, he HAS to be the actual love interest”
Stage 2 “ah oh they’re definitely blood related but it’s distant probably bc all the pure blood vampires are a product of incest, that’s weird, but at least she has another love interest who isn’t related to her in any way”
Stage 3 “so she’s his biological sister, okaaaay uh well at least the white haired love interest is there. The author wouldn’t insert incest for like totally no plot reason, that would be insane”
Stage 4 “what do you mean the white haired guy isn’t the main love interest, who else would it … no … good god why”
Stage 5 “ WHY WHY WHY, there was NO reason to make direct blood siblings fall in love that is so insanely unhinged and nasty, wtfffff”
