yes and the weak af King supports this decision. It's through the Dowager Empress support of Berta (Berta's father is giving lots of donations) it doesn't happen straight away.

That's just wrong. Just because the first queen couldn't have a child doesn't mean she has the right to take someone else's child. This will not go over well the majority of the population. The king needs to be for all of the people not just the commonwealth. If this was gonna be the plan from the beginning, then they should have gotten a commoner from a poor family to be a surrogate for the king and queen instead of entering into a second marriage of some sort for a child. Whatever the reason, Berta's father and the other tribal leaders or families will not let this slide. That's disrespect to the tribal families, the king and commonwealth better be ready for war then. This will not end well.

A big reason Berta fears custody of her son being transferred to the queen is fear of his welfare. Marguerite is a major bigot against non pure-bloods in the royal family. That is why she pushes for the King to take her lady in waiting as a concubine. The king doesn't understand Berta's fears and thinks she being prejudiced against the 1st queen. I don't think he "loves" the 1st queen but its obvious he has more attachment and favouritism towards his cousin/wife whom he has known since childhood and does seem to care for. Whereas, for berta he has no feelings for her or sentiment. She is merely a baby making machine to produce an heir and solidify alliances with a powerful house.

I read a review of the novel where it stated this is NOT a love story. And Berta and the King will not end up "falling in love" they stay together merely out of duty and fulfilling their roles.
I feel bad for berta she didn't expect to get pregnant so quickly and is now trapped in a suffocating enviromentt in a loveless marriage.

The king is overlooking a serious matter for is own value. If anything happens to the prince. It will be his fault and he will lose great respect from the tribal families and commoners. I understand how he feels about his first wife, but they should have done the surrogate route so this wouldn't happen. This is only child so far he needs to be smart about the situation at hand. He can't except for Berta to spread her legs again if the pince is hurt in anyway.

so the girl is from the future and now he's in the past but when she tried to come back to save her father, she came back to the past that is a d]few years ahead than she wanted and now she has to stay to become the part of the past and wait for her father (that is from the future before his death while timetravelling) to meet him

but it makes very little sense imo, why would she want to go back to the past after when her dad had died, wouldn't she need to go back 10 years before that??

Bc her father visited this time before he died while visiting the waeran war, so even though this time period is after the war is over, because her father visited it before he died, she knows that he’ll come here. (Both the time period she’s in right now and the period when her dad died are “in the past” considering that they’re from present time, so even though the time period she’s in right now is considered the “future” in comparison to the war when her father died, they’re just different points of “the past” to her and her father bc they live in the present.)
