gege's solution when there are unresolved background stories is to just have the characters not care about it :D
okay, i think some of y'all has forgotten so im here to remind people. megumi is not something specifically made to be a cage like yuji. he should be gone gone the moment sukuna shoved that finger down his throat. the fact that he was able to hold back sukuna's power down that low in chapter 212 was a feat that some people like to downplay. he should not be able to do that, coz he was not made by kenjaku to be a cage like yuji.
And people comparing Yuji and megumi's suffering and calling Megumi weak for not getting up IMMEDIATELY. Like why are we acting like Yuji got up on his own? Like no one helped him every time he broke down? Chapter 8, yuji let sukuna completely take over, and Megumi helped him out by telling yuji he never regretted helping him. He needed someone's words to bring him back up.
Then Shibuya happened. I think some of y'all forgot this, but yuji GAVE UP in Shibuya (in an eerily the same manner that megumi is giving up rn). If Todo did not teleport him to safety at the right moment he would be dead. And then he was given a pep talk by the man Todo himself, coz he was crying on the floor from all the traumatizing shit he had to go through (which is understandable, they're just kids ffs). Not only that but nitta gave him false hope too by making him believe that there's a sliver of hope for nobara. Only then did he stand up to fight again.
After Shibuya, Yuji was roaming around with no direction coz he gave up then too. He would have willingly went to jujutech to get that execution and have all this thing be over with. He didnt fight back against yuta, coz he thinks he deserves death. because to him, as long as he's around people will suffer, in that moment he gave up too. Because he blamed himself for everything. But Megumi gave him a reason to keep moving forward. Megumi didnt come up to Yuji to say 'it was not your fault' coz he knows that shit won't work. Instead what Megumi said was 'it is our fault' sharing the burden of blame with Yuji as well. And 'start by saving me' to give Yuji a reason to push forward. Only then did Yuji decide to live a little longer. He was planning on dying after helping Megumi.
Yuji persisted because the people around him keeps giving him a reason to do so. megumi, nanami, todo and then megumi again.. all gave him reasons to live.
But Megumi is alone in the abyss for a goddamn month.. and the only person he was living for died by his hands. like what do people expect? If he stands up like nothing happened, what did sukuna even do all that effort for?
if megumi just bounces back like that, what did sukuna even do all that for? he waited for the proper moment to say 'enchain' (at the highest point of megumi's confusion), he risked his life just to get inside megumi, did some evil bath ritual that only uraume could do, which shouldve been enough to sink megumi's soul coz, AGAIN, he is not specifically made to be a cage like yuji. but sukuna wanna be extra sure so he targeted megumi's sister, was lucky enough that tsumiki was possesed by his number 1 stan so he didnt have to go looking for her, used 10s while fighting 'tsumiki' so megumi would blame himself further. and to add to that, refused to shift to his ogform against gojo - coz megumi already killed his sister, why not kill his teacher too? like - all that effort and planning! successfully done! and y'all wanted megumi to brush it all off IMMEDIATELY like... how?????
(if anyone managed to read this far, i just wanna leave you with a theory: yuji is the last horcrux. he's literally harry potter. thats my theory bye.)
i think we are all witnessing gege's fever dream from when he was 9 years old... what in the world is this...
I have been seeing this a lot on twtr but are any of the people here under the assumption that megumi was about to summon mahoraga against todo in chapter 17? Like does anyone actually, genuinely think he was about to summon his untamed murderous pet against a fellow student?
I know this is old, but it baffles my mind a little how people think this... T-T
Yuuji out here bringing in his lawyer so they can prove that Sukuna violated the binding vow... this is truly our jujutsu kaisen.
Yuuji: sukuna, your very existence is harmful to the environment. You harmed people the moment you said ‘enchain’! You violated the binding vow!
Sukuna: noooo!!!!
Kashimo: you’re so beautiful, sukuna-senpai!! Kyaa!!
That’s how sukuna would get his kaisen truly jujutsu’d, it’s true - gege told me himself. ( ̄へ ̄)
This is what I have been waiting for in the entire gojo vs sukuna fight! For sukuna to go OG form and finally wield that gift from yorozu! He is now showing his whole bag of tricks! This means we are getting closer in seeing what megumi is doing in the void! I'm telling y’all when megumi emerges from the abyss i will be here. Trust.
Sukuna transforming doesnt mean that megumi aint coming back when that guy transformed back when he bit hana’s arm off. This is a magic manga, Megumi will find a way. Transforming back to his og body has been something that sukuna was able to do right from the start - he was just intentionally not doing it until now. When gojo set that date for their fight, there is no way in hell he wasn't expecting to fight sukuna’s og form in shinjuku. He literally gave sukuna the chance to go full power on him by delaying their fight for a month. That was why he asked sukuna why he was still using megumi’s face at the beginning of the fight, he was expecting to fight the og form of sukuna back then. The whole gang was expecting him to fight in his og form (fully incarnated) yet they still had a plan. Yuta, yuuji and Maki all have something cooking - they just need to weaken sukuna first. Maki has that soul liberation sword (which could potentially kill Megumi’s soul too, lmao) and Yuuji has that soul swapping ability (which we know nothing about yet) and yuta is a copy ninja - gege can literally pull anything out of his ass and he can just explain it away with “well, he copy stuff. Idk” Yuta has been away for a long time, he has a lot in his bag that we haven’t seen yet.
When megumi wins his body back he can transform it back to the shape of HIS soul. This unsmiling, urchin looking, grumpy boi is coming back - one way or another. Megumi is just chilling in the void right now, let’s just let sukuna have his 1vs1 for now.
The chances of yuuji dying back when he ate sukuna’s finger was high as fuck, but because of plot he lived and was in fact a custom made cage for sukuna all along. When sukuna force fed Megumi that freshly made cursed finger - the chances of him dying right then and there was also high as fuck. But somehow, Megumi was able to hold sukuna without his body imploding on the spot. We will see Megumi fight back y’all, it's just not his time to shine right now.
I know it feels like forever but megumi has only been possessed for 25 chapters, more than half of that chapter is just sukuna and gojo having a bromance in Shinjuku, while the other half are the students figuring out how to release gojo from jail. Sukuna has been after megumi’s body since chapter 10 and he only got it in chapter 212, of course megumi won't be able to free himself that quickly in just 25 chapters! A lot of shit is gonna go down first. I'm no longer on the gege train when it comes to his characterization but when it comes to oonga boonga fights, that guy never miss (much). The set up for megumi’s fight is just not happening yet, and won't be until later chapters. Right now it's kashimo’s time to shine, and maybe later we will see hakari vs uraume too. I may no longer trust gege that we will get a proper send off for megumi (or anyone for that matter), but i trust that we will see megumi fight - even if it's the last time.
If/when Megumi dies we will see him in his own airport having 1vs1 with toji while tsumiki eats some pop corn on the side with their mom singing kumbaya in the background. Everyone that died had some final words to say before leaving, gege will not do this to my boy meg mi. (๑•ㅂ•)و✧
Remember when sukuna said “there are consequences in being too greedy” (or something like that) - right now, this is him being greedy. Possessing a body that he (apparently) didn’t need to win. This greedy bastard wanted 10s so bad he orchestrated an elaborate plan, gambled with his life at stake - just to take it. And now his getting power ups left and right. He is getting too greedy, retributions are in order. I shall sit here and await his downfall. For now, enjoy the fights - I guess? This is a sorcery battle manga after all.
i'm not even a gojo fan, but wtf happened to his character this chapter? in the airport he was waffling about how lonely it is at the top, coz it seems that's all his character (suddenly) ever cared about. like, the gojo from the earlier chapters who had a dream and ambition vanished into thin air and was replaced by this gojo who cared more about how lonely/sad it must be for sukuna (since he didn't get to go all out) than the entire state of the world he left. i get that maybe gojo has always been this way and im just a dumbass, that maybe he never cared about anything but fighting - but if he was going to be just this shallow character, who only ever wanted to fight a stronger opponent, then why bother making him explain to ijichi the reason why he chose to be a teacher, despite knowing how shit he would be as one? why tell us that gojo wanted to change the rotten system of jujutsu by fostering strong and intelligent allies through education? where was the gojo who was mad because 3 of his students was sent on a suicide mission behind his back? why go out of his way to ensure that the kid of the guy he killed gets taken care of? what was the point of him fighting the higher ups to extend yuuji's life just because a student asked him to do something about it? are you telling me that he did all that just so he can have the chance to fight a full power sukuna someday? all the stuff we saw from the earlier-gojo was just him acting then? the reason why he recruited all those students with potential was because he gets off on fighting a stronger opponent?
i understand he was never a good 'teacher' - but does he have to be such a shit character as well? its not even about how much he sucked sukuna's dick in the afterlife, its that 'saving' sukuna from the loneliness of being the strongest seemed to matter to him more than achieving his own (supposed) goals. sukuna's satisfaction is more important than his students' safety it seems. who the hell was that gojo at the airport? i dont even know him.
the man implies he died with no regrets when he didnt even achieve a single goal, never won the battles in his life that mattered the most, never kept any of his promises, none of his students are ready to challenge him let alone the guy who beat his ass. what did his character achieve in this damn manga man.. i dont even know. i know gojo was only ever a teacher in name but never really acted like one, he was a recruiter - a good one at that since he can see a person's potential at a glance, but even so i still thought that he gave a damn about the students. my bad, i guess.
turns out the man was just an arrogant, selfish prick who is so self centered he died with no regrets just because he went out satiating his battle-lust - even though his death achieved nothing. what about the students that he left behind to deal with the threat that he could do nothing about, you say? fuck them i guess, who cares? at least he is satisfied with the fight. he only wished that sukuna was as satisfied as him. what in the world happened to gojo satoru, man.. who is this guy. i think they opened the wrong box because its not gojo that came out but someone else entirely. a sukuna fanboy came out of the damn box. maybe yorozu possessed him because who the hell was that guy. also, why in the world was he thinking about yorozu's quote? was he there when she said that? wtf
this wouldnt feel as bad if gojo died at the expense of pushing sukuna to throw all his cards on the table. but no, sukuna kept his secrets while gojo all but danced naked in front of sukuna showing him ALL his tricks.
i knew gojo would die (or at least be incapacitated) in this fight, i did not care if he lives or dies - i was even looking forward to see how it would happen - but i did not expect that along with his life his character would also be assassinated like this. THE gojo satoru, devolved into a little kid who is just happy that big brother sukuna acknowledged him. there's no coming back from this.
im not mad at gojo (he's a damn fictional character), im infuriated at the person who led us to believe that there's more to gojo than being a brainless battlefreak. if gege gives this death an actual meaning in the next chapters then it'll be too damn late because the damage has been done - gojo's last thoughts is dedicated mostly to how sad he is that sukuna was not able to go all out. he wants his feelings to reach sukuna-senpai through the fight so much, he gave it his all! lmao! amazing. brilliant even. wonderful! FANTASTIC! (╯°Д °)╯╧╧
damn, cant believe i wrote an essay for a character not even on my top 5 faves, look what you made me do gege!
i cant believe it has only been 10 chapters, this fight feels so long its like we've been here for years. im no sukuna fan but i want to see him do something other than defend, goddamit. but i dont want him to win, but i dont want him to lose like this, but i want megumi to come out of this alive aggghhh. this whole decisive battle is stressful af since im not even rooting for either gojo or sukuna, i just need to hear from megumi again. megumi! get the fuck up (╯°Д °)╯╧╧. i wish sukuna possessed panda instead so i wouldnt be this stressed! If that was someone else’s body I'd be cheering everytime gojo gets a W, but I can't even be happy when he landed that black flash coz that's Megumi in there! Agh!
copium ahead
no. 1 reason why megumi cant die (at least not like this): we need to see his domain at maximum potential! chimera shadow garden is one of the coolest domains (im biased), we better see that shit fully realized or istg!
his slow progress towards perfecting his domain was the only one shown out of all the students iirc. yuta, hakari, mechamaru and todo are all the students able to cast a domain expansion (two of those are simple domains) - but it is something that they already have. meanwhile, megumi's domain was the only one we witness from its conception (not counting mahito or naoya for obvious reasons) and gege gradually illustrated its improvement in all the times megumi used it.
1st time casting; succeeded in defeating a special grade but domain is incomplete. he threw up and collapsed immediately after using it coz domain expansion is draining af (emphasized when mahito created his domain vs nanami & yuuji)
2nd time casting; still incomplete, but he was able to maintain it longer than the first time without collapsing/throwing up. was still able to fight toji afterwards, got hit by a sneak stab from the random annoying twink (i think they fought a little off screen too) and still have energy to summon makora. at face value it might seem like not much but considering how he only got to casting that incomplete domain just recently, that is a commendable feat.
3rd time casting; still incomplete. but not only was he able to hold it for longer we are now starting to see it take shape. its no longer just a formless mass of shadow, it now has a spine looking thing with veins and shit in the middle - despite him being unable to create a barrier for his domain, thats still a big progress! The word ‘chimera’ in his domain’s name is slowly starting to make sense! It's very clear that gege wants to take this somewhere promising.
Overall his domain is slowly but surely improving each time, all he has to do is overcome that mental block and i dont know a better way to do that than be quite literally trapped in your own mind and face yourself. I'm 60% sure that what we're seeing everytime Megumi gets a cameo is him in his own innate domain, he doesn't seem to be sharing an innate domain with sukuna like yuuji was back then. yes, he's just laying there right now - but he will get up!(/TДT)/
i doubt that slow progress on megumi’s domain was shown only for it to never have a pay off. not only would that be lame it would also be a waste of all that build up. Leaving Megumi with a half done character arc will just be so sad man I don't believe gege would do that to a character he built up this carefully. megumi's comeback is gonna be euphoric after all this suffering┗( T﹏T )┛until then i'll just trust the process.
tldr; megumi will rise from the shadow. trust.
