I know, right? Sheesh. They make us love and adore a character, only for the author to mess with our feelings—either by killing them off, turning them into hateful villains, or making them wait for the rest of their life. It's giving me second male lead syndrome.
Also, why can't the knight or merchant get the main girl too? Why is it always dukes and princes?
Ranting aside, I still want to see the female lead find her own happiness, so I stick around—even if I don't agree with everything

Before you do this, you must first gauge whether the guy likes the girl or at least has a chance.
