I both hate and love that I ever gave Meiant a brownie point for helping her in that fire. I love that the author gave him his “puppy in the rain” moment and then proved he’s even worse scum than we initially thought. Such good writing.

To all those complaining about his age: the target demographic is teen girls. Teen girls also have crushes on older men. From personal experience, even at 16 I would get sooooo weak over some of the hot men I knew IN THEIR THIRTIES AND FORTIES, but I didn’t have much interest in guys my own age. Even if you know nothing is going to happen, who you’re attracted to is just who you’re attracted to, don’t people make this argument a lot?
Ffs why are you reading fiction and acting like it’s reality. Shut up and enjoy the story.
The problem is not a young teen in love with an adult, but the other way round. And just because it's fiction it doesn't make it ok. We can complain about the problem and still read it you know.
I’m saying let fiction be fiction. I’m saying age gap romances exist, get over it. There are so many huge age gaps in my family it’s weird that my parents are only four years apart and for the most part? They’re some of he best, most devoted couples I know. I’m so sick of people policing age gaps in healthy relationships. (Mind, our ML in this one has some issues we can talk about, I’ll give you that, but criticizing him solely for his age is unfair.)

I’ll admit, this is mostly a lot of built up frustration stemming from YEARS of people being like this. It’s not tied to this story directly. I’m just tired of people not saying things about what’s actually wrong in relationships and instead bitching about A NUMBER.
I agree that age gap relationships are okay. BUT only when it is between 2 consenting adults. When both are matured properly then even a 20 yr age gap doesn't seem that bad.
But this is between a kid and an adult. I don't know how else to tell you that it's wrong.
I agree that it’s not completely kosher, this story especially tbh, but there are right and wrong ways to go about things. Again, it’s personal perspective from my own family’s experience. My Grandmother was 16 when she first met my grandfather, who was twelve years older than her. But their love story is basically a movie waiting to happen and utterly wholesome. Because you can do things wholesomely.
I’m just really, utterly exhausted of so many people on the internet seeming to think a number automatically makes it grooming, because it doesn’t. I’m saying it’s necessary to pay attention to the persons involved instead of painting everything with the broad brush of age gap bad. I see folks scream age gap bad when it IS two consenting adults, and that makes it even more frustrating.
