The competence of the ML ALMOST makes up for the too-stupid-to-live heroine! Almost.
Trauma usually at least instills some caution and self-preservation instincts, sweetie. This is a criticism of bad writing, and bad writing only. I have the utmost respect for trauma victims. I will defend the fuck out of well-written traumatized characters. I do it all the time. What I can’t respect is poorly done characterization that leaves us with a female lead that has no other traits than innocent (out of place), and lacking self confidence (tried, but too shallow).
The novel has an official English translation. Excellent translation, and the novel has some advantages that make it a better read if any of you are interested.
Is the novel complete?
If I understand correctly, yes. It’s a trilogy, and I think all three volumes have already been released. I’ve only read the first so far, but I enjoyed the wholesomeness and how the main characters connected over mutual enthusiasm about their intellectual pursuits. They’re two peas in a pod, really.
