No, he was basically the 5th son of a Count. In their family's tradition, all the sons, except the eldest, go into Priesthood; thus his path was decided to also become a priest. He was excellent in childhood, and was quickly recognized, but he wasn't really devoted, instead he was smug about his excellence. He was also became a leader of sorts to some boys whose skills he approved of; they have occasional discussions and debates. On his way to one of these meetings, he fell off a bridge and was miraculously saved (but no time rewind was involved). Eversince then, he became a devout. He was looking at Shuli because he was wondering if she also experienced a miracle. In a way, she did. Just like him, she was given a second chance at life.
