The king gives the impression he only sees women as objects. He doesn't actually LIKE them — they're but a means to an end (male heir) and a way to let off steam. His behavior isn't okay, and he does recognize that later. I think he even realizes his he shouldn't have been so nonchalant about a potential breakup. But he goes on a business trip, Doyun pretends to be drunk and calls Yiyoung whilst he's on the phone with Kang, so Yiyoung tells Kang he'll go help Doyun. I think Kang KNOWS Doyun is gay, hence why he's so worried. But he's stuck in traffic and can't do anything right now.
It's during this time that Yiyoung is like, "Wait...do you like Kang?" etc.
