Not big on rape shown this way, because it feels like it's done for enjoyment. I think there are better ways to get the very heavy point across which would have been less exploitative feeling. That said, I still like this manga for some reason. And props to the mangaka for including a trans character without using them as a joke!

Um, actually I saw it handled completely the opposite. As opposed to so many other yaoi manga out there. Weird.

I agree and disagree. I think that it exists as both. It is catering to certain fans but it is also there to represent the amount of abuse Haru allowed himself to endure under the false guise of love so we could understand his self victimization complex and justify his using the sex industry as a form of self validation. Many victims put themselves in similar situations where they feel more control as a very bad coping mechanism. There is a clear distinction of symbolism in the sexual acts and transaction of money following it during his time as a prostitute because his early and young associations to love were to be in a similar situation/ the trauma began when he realized money was involved with his sensei and through that he recognized his own abuse and status as a victim of child abuse. It should be disturbing and traumatic and it shouldn't be sexualized, but in the bl community there are definitely people that do. Hopefully there are readers out there that are able to take works seriously and take advantage of the absence of censorship to see how real and terrifying sexual abuse can be but also how it looks from the victims eyes at the time. I think this manga depicts his abuse in that scene through Haru's eyes as a child that believed in his abuser and that what his abuser was doing wasn't wrong but actually love. At that time Haru didn't see it as bad or wrong or abuse (how could he, he is a child told that this is definitely what love is and has no other standards to say it isn't), it was normalized to him and I think the viewer can pick up on that in that scene because later scenes depict Haru's view of the events after he realized what it was and how bad it was.
Lol people getting all up in arms over consensual casual sex...
