Okay I've read that chapter again and Lyle went to see ash but Hazel was there first. Lyle wanted to leave but was like "no I can't loose him, he's all I have" and turned around. Ash introduced him to Hazel and said something along the lines of "he's my lover so leave us alone. I don't want you" because Hazel left Ash for someone else in America. No one knows the real reason why Ash and Hazel split up (Ash said it himself) so that's why they like him.
