I dont think he "chose" willingly to be a slut. If he remained in that house alone, he surely would have ended his life by the time karel reached him. Sasya was always insecure for the reason being his past and karel's couisn didnt help much either by always telling sasya to not get close to karel and know his place and all that. I imagine sasaya and karel being much happy with each other if his damn cousin hadnt interfered and that russian king's wife or whoever that is. Sasya knew that he had to go and dance to get away from his insecurities and be preoccupied with it and when he reached paris he knew that he had to be this slut so that they could scout him and give him an opportunuty. Though he was living better and not trying to kill himself like before, it came with a cost as we all saw.
