the author is preparing for a sequel!!! we are cheering!!!
Old Fashioned Cupcake has been on hiatus since 2022. The latest chapter I could find was chap 3 of vol 3. The last part of that chapter was about Nozue's dinner with his 2 friends (the male and female friends who have appeared before). The female friend mentioned that the male friend had recently gone to a LGBT conference, and the male friend was at first flustered, telling Nozue "I didn't go to it because of you", but then he said "I wasn't familiar with your current situation. I'm sorry we cannot change the world that we're living in. I can only change myself. Please forgive me" and it's just. Ugh. I don't think there's many stories out there that do it quite like this one. I hope Sagan Sagan is doing ok, and that we'll get updates from them eventually.
it's crazy how similar the two are: they both have a quick wit and a sharp mouth, with the ability to see through other people (including each other) but still a bit unaware about themselves. oh but they're gonna get to that point soon, i think both will have to confront their own self and be honest about their feelings - and that's thanks to the other! insane dynamic! to my imagination they're quite seke coded but of course the final decision lies in roji's hand haha
re-read c1+2 on MRM (the panel order is correct over there) and c3 here and man this story was soooo promising.
Youjirou, a biter who was hidden and heavily monitored by his family which led to him being rebellious to the point he committed a crime, yet he wasn't actually punished for it because his family like to keep everything hush hush. His twisted personality was a product of the environment he grew up in, along with his desire to break free (like just compare him to Annaka Yuusei, the biter in Smokey Nectar. Clearly Anna's family has done something right because he didn't grow up to be the kinda biter that abuses their power as they please).
The other one, Isshin, comes from a family whose duty is to serve the biter's family. After being kicked in the head by Youjirou, imo he developed a fascination with biters and a twisted desire to tame them, especially Youjirou.
They, our two twisted main characters were forced (or weren't they? it's Isshin's idea after all) cohabitated, and Isshin tampered with the device to tame Youjirou, or you can say to domesticate a beast. Maybe it's the saliva of a biter in heat, maybe it's something else that the author didn't manage to include in this story, but I think somewhere along the way Isshin kinda fell first and then Youjirou followed. This "falling for each other" aspect wasn't well explained by the author at all, like chap 4 and 5 look to me like the author ran out of steam so they tried to finish up the whole thing as fast as possible. There is an extra chapter that is quite sweet though, I hope it'll get translated here. But yeah the whole story could've been more well done...
I personally was hooked on c1 and 2 of Domestic Beast when it was first translated, to the point I searched high and low for raws in so many different languages that I don't know to continue reading it. So I'm a bit disappointed at how it ended, like can the author please redo c4+5 and add another chapter to make it more, idk, whole? Maybe a sequel to explore the depth of Youjirou and Isshin's feelings for each other, that'd be nice.
I'm yapping about Domestic Beast a lot because I've been following it for years... Yeah it would've benefitted from being a bit longer and a bit more thoroughly explained. Idk if the author kinda got into something in the middle of writing this that caused them to end the story in a rush (literally c4-5 was fast as hell). Author is currently doing the 3rd volume of Smoky Nectar and another story, so I'm not sure if they'll revisit Domestic Beast in the near future, but I hope they will. This story had such a promising/interesting premise (2 twisted individuals who were forced to be with each other??? omg) but the execution just went off the cliff half way... Maybe I shouldn't have expected too much given the author's track record (they aren't a strong writer) but still...
i've read the author's previous work... yeah angst is guaranteed
having read this and smokey nectar and i'd say this author has really good art style and intriguing ideas but they arent the best writer. their stories would've been top notch if the plot/writing were better executed.
we gon die fr when the last panel of c104 gets uploaded here yall

"i'm your best catcher" ahahaha i love it when author's being tongue in cheek like that. ugh i just love this author so much: their art is amazing, the plot is solid not too short not too long, and the way they add just the right amount of humor, despair and hope in their stories... if you haven't pls check out their other works "The Eve Festival" (prolly one of the best BL I've ever read) and "Declaration of War" - you won't be disappointed.
YES YES YES thank you translator this story is finally here T__T I used to pray for times like this ...

i remember reading this on a different site 10 years ago! this story was my intro to webtoon/manhwa. i went to the author's twitter and their last update was in 2019 and they haven't had any new work since... i hope they're doing ok...
big thank you to the translator! you did a splendid job and in such a short time too to boost! i hope your pillow will always stay cool at night, and that things in life goes smoothly for you.
as for this whole arc, man i'm so glad i wait until now to finish it in one sitting. you can say this story is "Jinhyeong's journey to learn how to be "human" again" but man each and every arc is just so meaningful. it may cover very simple topics like family, colleagues, school, ex - but each leaves such an impression on me, and like the dialogues, wow it can cut really deep without being to draggy/angst. and it teaches you life lessons alright! i have said this before about the author but man they are such a good person. seriously. they could've ended this arc with Jinhyeong and Songrik never had their last meeting, but they chose to write it to give each character a closure. they even gave Songrik a somewhat happy ending: he had a found family, had a high school degree and a job, and even met his mom again. the author portrays the ugliness of the world real well real realistic, but at the end of it they really want us to learn how to be a decent person, and want us to have our happy ending just like Jinhyeong and Songrik.
what a great author, and a great person.
9th grade? i know these stories dont tend to be grounded in reality anw but that was a bit much, no? like i had a brief hockey phase and the few players that i knew all started hockey when they were in pre-school or primary school. in fact most pro athletes start early... sure it's for plot's sake but i feel like the author could have made things more believable to people who actually know a thing or two about this sport. i guess they dont care that much because most fans care more about the romance aspect than the sport aspect. oh well
i did some math lol, in korea c131 was released on Feb 5 and c132 was released in April 25. so that was 2 months and 20 days. since c131 Eng ver was released on March 19, i am hoping c132 Eng ver will be released on June 9, which should be soon!
the author is such a good egg. like they have a great head above their shoulders, with ample of empathy and love, and you can see and feel it in the dialogues. this story gives out very nice life advices and some philosophical stuffs for you to ponder about, without being too dark or losing its touch of humor. one of the best works out there atm tbh.
