I know that many of us have probably heard the phrase “It’s not WHAT you say, it’s HOW you say it that matters”, but I really wonder if that’s true for some of the individuals on this site. I personally think both go need to work in unison for the best results when reaching a person. Especially given that we are communicating to each other without a spoken or audible component, I figure we may be really focused on the contents of another users message, but not always able to pick up on the actual intended message each user is trying to convey in every instance. After a bit of thought, I have decided to see what people here think about the way they both talk to others and like to be talked to with some of the following questions:
1. When talking to others, what is your priority? Example: My priority is to be polite and professional, even under stress.
2. In a group of people where conversation is taking place, what role would you most frequently take on as a part of that group conversation? Example: Primary Talker, Devils Advocate, Mediator, Topic Changer, Quiet Observer (Ocasionally speaks up), ect.
3. If another person were talking but you could not see their body language, would you more likely be upset because they implied something unfavorable about you or someone/thing you cared about with just their words or simply their tone?
4. What is more likely to interest you from a seemingly mundane person, a bizarre or incredible statement with no tone/inflection, or an extremely average statement said with a bizarre or incredible tone/inflection? Why is this so?
