So, this was just amazing like everyone said. The characters had realistic attitudes & the author did just great portraying it in the work environment! It really sold the story
which was very important for the success of genuity considering it features very familiar & real topics such as police investigation & murder as the main focus.
Realism also meant we had no cliches to to rely on for predictability so this made it much more refreshing to read! It truly had a gripping, compelling plot and it felt the author put care into the details of the investigation. Anything that has been crafted with the utmost genuine care by the author is always a joy to read! Lovely story!
I remember reading this story a long while back and it really stuck in my mind. I finally read it again and it still hasn't changed how I interesting the concept is of a journalist tryna snag an interview from a secluded mathematician! And they never explain the horns which leaves more for the imagination! Very unique and refreshing! I wish it would update!
With the way it was presented in the beginning, the story seemed like it was going to be like the usual BL story, only slightly varied with a creative deer centered world. What stood out at first was the cool concept of their little world, but mostly just that the author even bothered to depict a world at all, even actually drawing backgrounds & details in it. Most BL stories never bother depicting settings but, as this story goes on, the author goes even further & fleshes out the setting so the readers get a real sense of their world & how it works! Like how there are little spirits, powers can be taken away, his father turned into a deer due to the mysterious rules of their world! That's damn great! Feels like people could actually live in such a place! Furthermore, the author explored such a unique type of emotional depth in the characters, specifically the MC. They even confronted the fact that, "yes this MC is unlikeable" & had the MC acknowledge it himself! Sousuke came off as a typical tsundere kind of grumpy cliche. Many authors like to make characters like these without going past this cliche and adding more of an individual personality leaving us to wonder, "what IS there to like?". But this is the first time I've ever read an author actually meaningfully incorporate this fault into a story. This story ended up being terribly lovely, full of emotion, complex thoughts from the characters, thoughtful back stories, and nicely thought out fantasy elements ( like his dad turning into a deer that was lit) and just felt tender & sincere. It was above all a story that did not want to settle for being average or plastic & had heart. It may seem strange in the beginning, & even has weird moments (what the hell was with him & his brother??) but is still such a beautiful read! Highly recommend!
This community needs more readers like you. A lot of them just whine about "light sabers" all the time and basically force their own views to others. They never notice the other elements.
So hnnngghhh oh crap. This is beautiful, this is beautiful, this is beautiful, this is beautiful, this is beautiful, this is beautiful.
Wow. What can I say?
I've been a fan of Aki's stories for what feels like a while now (3 years). Her stories are in no way perfect, but they always feel very warm hearted, sincere, and always feel as though they try to present something deep and profound to the audience. I read this collection of short stories 3 years ago & when I did, it stuck with me and is pretty much why I reread it today. This is one of her stories that I feel is some of the most moving. To put it simply, it gives you the FEELS. The first story is cute & light hearted but the second story is just precious and makes my heart ache as it deals with the insecurities of a character feeling useless but then finding acceptance which was just so heartwarming & terribly sweet. That was my second favorite personally.
But Chapter 3... Chapter 3 DESTROYS ME EVERY TIME. I WILL NEVEERR GET OVER CHAPTER 3, NEVERR. I've waited 3 years to rant about this but oh my Lord that actually killed me. (Kinda Spoilers)
I'm not even gonna lie, I seriously cried when reading that. Yukis situation was so sad, pitiful and lonesome. He was only seen as some cute accessory or expensive pet. No free will. Destined to live and die an unfulfilled life as a caged bird, always seeming cheerful but hiding so many unheard cries inside. The only small bit of happiness he had was with his flower & even that was taken away. That open ending oh Lord with Yuki just waiting sorrowfully. Shit. He ain't real but never in my life have I wished for a character's happiness as much as with Yuki. I reaaaallly wish Aki would write more for that so I can finally have my god damn closure but no, it's staying like that. God it kills me every time.
So yeah, I would literally recommend to read it just for Chapter 2 & 3 alone. Those were breath taking. The rest are very sweet and cute. Plus in all honesty, Aki has some of the best god damn art I've ever seen. The style looks almost common but it holds her own extraordinary flair and beauty. It's breathtaking. She illustrates such unabashedly beautiful male characters. She full on gives them fabulous designs without caring whether they look feminine or male which I really admire!
Yes this is Shounen Ai, & I truly wish she would do more because I feel Aki just shines at it. I recommend because this gem needs much more attention!
