I don't think I've enjoyed reading something this much in so long. Seriously, this feels like a hidden gem. To anyone saying the FL changed, she did but for the better! In the beginning a lot of her "baddie" attitude was simply because she was aloof and struggling to find happiness. She becomes a legitimately strong person as the story continues, only through her constant efforts and struggles to succeed. She becomes someone who finally has a family she can rely on, so love literally heals her and she gets to be a kinder person. But still a badass! She's simply more intelligent about the way she plots and achieves her revenge. She doesn't let anyone get in her way, trust me. So please do give this a read if you want to enjoy a story with a competent FL who has kindness in her heart and heals her wounds while still sticking to her guns and never having sympathy for those who wronged her. (People who enjoyed Regina Lena will most likely enjoy this one!)
I seriously feel like a lot of people are diminishing the idea of "badass" to just someone who steps on other's with no regard to anyone's feelings.. or like a dommy mommy type woman? You can be a strong person without needlessly harming others.. She's much more complex than a mindlessly strong woman who messes everyone up because she feels that's the only way to be taken seriously. In a story like this that's absent of mindless misogyny, it's cool to see a character work for her place and be rewarded and regarded by others without boring socialite wars and the constant "but women in this world can't-" BAH! She gets out there and shows everyone through her actions she is a noble and strong woman who shouldn't be disregarded. She sticks up for her family, and messes up the people who wrong her or them! She doesn't even shed a single tear for the bozos who get in her way, but remains of a gentle heart for those she loves. Seriously, I'm actually so passionate about this story it's ridiculous....
