In psychology, we talk about gender and sexuality being spectrums. So, people are "more or less straight" as opposed to just gay or straight. Such "either-or" categories rarely exist in psychology. People are messy and complex, so naturally, gender and sexuality are too. I'd recommend bringing up this spectrum idea to him and ask him what he thinks......
