I don't hate this manhwa but isn't 9.5 a bit too much for a cliche story with cliche characters? I thought high ratings were for actual masterpieces not mediocre stories with nice art??

hey :D

I'm kinda trying to translate this right now (as long as they don't talk much I'm good), and I think my translations are more or less fine, so I want to upload them - buuut I don't know how. anyone does?

Whoever is translating this, Thank You very much for taking your time to do this. There is a great lack of good shoujo manga and its been a really long time since I found one as good as this with a real plot. All the characters have a backstory worth reading about and I love our heroine together with her adorable and awkward boyfriend.

I had to stop after 5 chapters cause this is complete shit. So far all I get is that it's about one horny guy and one slightly sadistic cute looking seme. I had to recheck the tags cause I thought it was shota. They look like young boys without public hair yet. And Who the hell masturbates in front of a friend just cause they were told to do so? And then he acts all pissed and shy in front of him the next day? Well obviously

*this is my interpretation of the manga after rereading it from beginning to end - feel free to add or argue or whatever if you think my summary's lacking*

Basically the beginning of the manga is all "fake" aka Law put Jesse under Moritat so he could fake a scenario where Jesse is the rich heir to Brown Company but was tortured and then traumatized by his parents' deaths and loved only Law blah blah blah.

So what was the point of Law doing so?

The flashbacks (which is the TRUE reality of Jesse and Law's pasts) basically tells us.

Since childhood, Law has suffered tremendous anxiety and pressure from his "friendship" with Jesse. Not only were there romantic feelings involved, but Law also felt low-key hatred towards Jesse for being so controlling, oppressive and perfect.

Law puts Jesse on a pedestal for his entire life and their relationship in the TRUE reality reaches the breaking point when Jesse tells Law that he wants Law to go to school and leave him. [This is where people get confused in the flashbacks; basically Law pretends that he wants to leave to go study so he can see Jesse panic over losing him - but Jesse wants to finally be selfless & have a healthier relationship with Law so he tells him to go ahead and do so.]

Law freaks the fuck out and thinks this means Jesse never loved/needed him. So he then puts Jesse under Moritat, and then reenacts that entire scenario that is like the first 20 chapters of the manga.

Their experience in Moritat ends because this time (Law apparently has done this scenario multiple times with Jesse but each time, Jesse refuses to "choose" him aka Jesse doesn't trust Law even in this new fake world Law created Moritat), Jesse FINALLy ends up trusting in Law and "chooses him" when he says that he wants to die with Law rather than live without him.

This is all Law ever wanted - but he gets scared of commitment and ends Moritat. In the present, he tells Jesse it was all about control, not love, for him. In reality, he does (obsessively & unhealthily) love Jesse but is too afraid to finally be in a relationship with this person he's revered as a God for so long.

That's what the last chapter of Moritat is all about. Jesse believed Law when Law said he only put Jesse in Moritat to mess with him/control him/finally beat him. So he leaves and goes back to school. But then he runs into that maid and realizes that Law is still head over heels obsessed/in love with him and still watching that simulation of child Jesse. So he runs back and tells Law to man the fuck up and be with him in the REAL world, even if it's hard and unhealthy and complicated.

In case you couldn't tell, I fuckin loved this manga. Brilliant and deep as shit and I don't even mind that they don't kiss at the end lmao.

I still can´t forgive Law. He created Moritat and hurt Jesse solely for the reason of satisfying his feelings and to finally get over him. In chapter 28 Jesse confronted Law of his suspicious that Law might be the person behind everything and in response Law cried (to the point that Jesse was afraid he might dehydrate himself) but it turns out Jesse was right. Law is the culprit and yet he cried? He admitted in ch 52 that the kidnapping was a setting that he created yet we continuously see Law trying to appear innocent throughout
the time in Moritat and him looking hurt every time Jesse accused him. I still love him but it surprised me how easily Jesse forgave him. I wonder if he still has that lighter? (he probably does). I finally understand now why Law refused to give the mothers voice message to Jesse. It was all because Law wanted Jesse to rely on him and only him and not try to find comfort in his mother´s voice.

Anyways there are still things that are unclear. First of, Jesse says in chapter 31 that he hasn´t cut his nails or hair which means that their physical appearance stays the same inside Moritat so how is it possible that Jesse didn´t notice he stopped growing all the other times? I know Law had many failed attempts so Jesse would eventually forget everything but it doesn´t take long to notice that you´re not growing.

In ch 19 Law told Jesse about the first time they met where Jesse says "hey you blonde, whats your name?" Did that really happen inside Moritat? I think every flashback Jesse and Law have are real that happened in Moritat but if so, how did they grow older? Does Law do something with the machine that makes their physical appearance change as he pleases? (It is possible since Jesse didnt have that scar on his forehead inside Moritat).

But again back to my question, how did Jesse not notice or did Law play with his mind so every time he questions reality, Law brainwashes him and has him falling asleep like we saw each time Jesse wonders about all the strange things? For example in ch 12, Jesse wonders why he doesnt have any scars on his body despite the accident and suddenly his mothers corpse appears out of nowhere which diverges his thoughts to something else. Same in ch 25 Jesse wonders why he´s never wondered about this machine inside his body. Perhaps Jesse inside Moritat wasnt really Jesse since he was being brainwashed. So the only explanation I have is that Law would create a different setting each time where they are either in their current age or younger and somehow play with Jesse´s mind so Jesse wouldn´t notice that he isnt growing and how the tea and cigarettes taste weird. And even when he wonders, he soon forgets. I´d love to hear other people´s thoughts about this weird machine but then again I feel like this is not what the author wants us to focus on.

Notice the change of words. Before it was "beautiful, wise and cruel" then, "beautiful, cruel but tender" and now he says, " poor, silly and lovely Jesse"
Oh how the tables have turned.

Aside from that, I found it really sad how the mother was literally telling Law she would pay him to stay friends with Jesse. I wonder if she knows that they're sleeping together and what would she do if she knew that Law already is aware of the family's little flaw.

And I wonder if Jesse got up from the dinner table and went away knowing full well that his mother would try to convince Law to stay here. This story is so addictive Im lovin it
