unrequited love is when one character is in love with someone that definitely doesn't love them back.
should I put mutual pining and unrequited love in separate or the same list??? i mean they're basically the same thing. kind of.

I wouldn't say they're the say. Mutual pining implies that they'll get together (happy ending) and unrequited love usually means they won't get together, and is usually more associated with sad storylines/arcs
i see, that is a valid interpretation. personally, I think that unrequited love is when the mc has a love that they think will never be requited, until it is revealed in later chapters that the recipient of their unrequited love also developed/had feelings for them as well.
mutual pining, to me, is when we get to see both sides equally pining for each other, and know that they are in love with eachother.
Certainly unrequited love can be that. I think of that as more specifically unrequited love that turned out to be requited after all. And the difference between that and mutual pining is how much we, as the audience, see of the situation. But sometimes unrequited love stays unrequited. So if you're making lists then yeah it would make sense to put mutual pining and unrequited love (that becomes requited) together. And keep unrequited love (that stays unrequited) stories in a separate list
what do you guys think about reviews on lists? i was wondering if you guys liked or disliked manhwas (mangas, etc) having reviews.
tbh it helps see another opinion so I can hopefully skip the shitty manhwas/mangas. Can't ever trust the general ratings since they're ALL 4.5-5 stars

These are some reasons I found from Reddit and Quora, and why it’s not why I like yaoi more than straight smut.
“I like seeing two hot guys make out” that’s def a reason but it’s pretty vague. Why don’t I like seeing a hot girl and hot guy make out???? What’s the difference???? And also, I just like seeing hot people show affection for each other in general.
“There is no inherent inequality between men based on gender” I mean,, omegaverse exists and I like it (sometimes, there’s a lot of rape) and often, due to plot, there’s a clear divide in social or financial standing, yet I roll with it. And there may be difference in size, but I’m pretty indifferent to height differences. this is the best reason so far, because I don’t usually like it in yaoi or straight smut when one character is treated like a child or glass , it’s extremely patronizing and takes away any agency a character has. doesn’t explain why I like yaoi much more than straight smut though
“The characters are more relatable and realistic than the female counterpart in het romances”… some characters are like a complete 180 from my personality type but I like that though I do agree that I find more female characters in het romances are not relatable at all, I pretty much don’t care how realistic the characters are most of the time
“Comparing myself to the female mc” for some reason, I don’t compare myself to the ridiculous bodies that the women have in straight smut, maybe I’m doing in subconsciously or something, but it doesn’t bother me.
“Sick of drama” straight smut and yaoi smut are pretty similar in that the characters will get straight to fucking
“Men show emotions” there is no emotion other than honry in smut. All in all, if a character, man or woman, show no emotion, they just seem inhuman. I see it happen a lot in both; one of the character’s is stone hearted and cold. but I know some of you like that and I like it too
“Objectification” from the deep, deep, deep trenches of myreadingmanga, men were definitely objectified for their nipples or other features (big dick)
“Escape from baggage that comes from our patriarchal society” the problem is that smut is so unrealistic that both straight smut and yaoi smut are both kind of escapisms from society for me. Like, both have men who have ridiculously large penises, I just can’t take both of them seriously and imagine it ever happening realistically
For some reason, I don’t like it when one of the characters are overly effeminate to the point where they just seem like a girl. when I read straight smut and imagine the girl as a guy, for some reason I start to like it.
maybe… maybe I just like dicks so much that I don’t want to see another vagina? That’s my conclusion. Please help me.
You’re overthinking. It’s just a preference. Even if some of this is true, it doesn’t change anything. Plus most straight smut is targeted towards men. Most BL is watered down and written by women for women. Trust you are the targeted audience

I think it's the subconscious comparing, as from what I understand from it, its like the female mc has the same gender as you and you wish to be in her place and get love and attention as she does but you can't be but when it's a male mc you don't really care about it since it's a male. Idk if this makes any sense lol.
Another is that more often than not female mc are damsels in distress which just promotes the idea that women are weak and irritates readers but in bls if men are damsel in distress although irritating but not as much in comparison as men aren't known to be damsel in distress so it's interesting to read it.
Also men usually do bare minimum and woman give the relationship their all which is frustrating hence seeing two men in a relationship even if one is not giving their all the other is bound to so you basically see men be more emotionally expressive in one way or the other and you like it more.
Also it's a primal genetic thing to like say gex, everyone does but only some pursue their feelings and read it. You're on the right path don't worry.

I think because it is new or more like hidden. When Im still at the age of 16, I always read straight novels or stories and always reading it got me bored. When I get to learn BLs, I ventured new places, at first I cant accept anal penetration because I think it is dirty (even if Im gay). However, as more time pass, it become more thrilling because you tend to hide it from many people and only share it with BL fans, there are even girls who dislike BL so hiding it and reading is exciting. Compared to straight stories where you can openly discuss it
