just started reading it and is there any reason why they decided to translate haneul’s and hyeonwoon’s names to english in the officials? i get it that haneul means sky in korean, but skylar sounds so… weird. whenever i see this name here i can’t help but get a mental image of walter white’s goddamn wife. and cirrus doesn’t even translate to hyeonwoon, but to gwon-un, so that’s even weirder (though i guess gwonwoon would be a pretty ugly name lol). that’s the first time i’ve seen official translations translating the names of the characters to english and it’s just so odd. at first i thought they were some international students but then i saw the raws and they’re just your average koreans. so weird.

The official Korean name of Cirrus is Hyunwoon (that’s what it used for the Korean merch as well) so you are wrong. Hyunwoon in Korean means CLOUD and a type of cloud specifically that is CIRRUS so it makes perfect sense. Since international fans are dumb ALL the translation’s decided to make it even more OBVIOUS the connection between the 2 boys

how am i wrong? his official name is hyeon-un (or hyunwoon, depends on how you want it to be romanized). if that means cloud then yeah, that makes sense, though i couldn’t find it translated into that word myself. and idk if the international fans are dumb or the official publisher is treating them as if they were dumb. there are plenty other webtoons where the main characters’ names have some meaning in korean yet they explain it in the translator’s note once and never mention it again. that’s why i found it weird that only their names were translated.

You indeed are dumb because u didn’t even read me attentively. The names were changed into English and even in other languages for instance in Japanese we have Sora for Skylar and Kirito for Cirrus so that readers will better understand the meaning of their names. This was done in accordance with the author and it was plenty explained in the past as well. You just came late to the party. It’s even written as a small explanation in the hard copies of Italian volumes.

okay, you literally did not say that it was the author’s wish in your first reply, you just told me i’m wrong and later didn’t even bother to tell me why you think i’m wrong for asking a simple question. i asked why the names were changed, and you told me that they were changed in all translations because the international fans are dumb (how are they dumb? because they don’t know korean and can’t guess the meaning of a name if it’s not mentioned anywhere even once?). and no fucking shit i’m late to the party, the first thing i stated in my original post is that i just started reading this webtoon. that’s why i’m asking a question. and you’re funny thinking that i’m gonna know what’s written as a small explanation in the hard copies of italian volumes of a webtoon that i started reading not even a day ago. you’re so entitled and hostile to someone who simply asked a question that wasn’t even rude in the first place. i was just genuinely curious and maybe a little surprised why they decided to change their names instead of giving just a small explanation and keeping the original korean ones. not gonna waste any more of my breath on someone who gets so mad over the tiniest and most insignificant things.

i can’t believe some of y’all really thought the director’s gonna be the endgame… did you read the description or at least look at the cover before reading? also calling this story trash simply because it won’t have the “healthy unproblematic happily ever after” is just soooo childish and stupid. not every BL webtoon has to have the same boring ass plot and ending. and while i felt bad for the director myself, i didn’t see any chemistry between him and yijae.
i liked the story a lot, especially how it was clear that yijae had been just wilfully ignorant about minhyung’s feelings and obsessiveness. he was manipulated to some extent, that’s true, but i think he’s quite a complex character and definitely more than meets the eye. and he’d been enabling this behavior for a loooong time. so he clearly finds some comfort in their unhealthy codependency. it’s nice to see that actually implied so early on. i also loved minhyung’s calm demeanor and the way he was absolutely obsessed with yijae, wanting to control him at every time yet still caring deeply about him. really hyped up for season 2.
also the creator’s note was just sooooo cute and funny. i love this author already

finished reading season 1 and i have a lot of mixed feelings. the story itself is really interesting, there’s some world building and an actual plot, a complex one on top of that (something that’s not really common in BL webtoons), but all of it feels so… underdeveloped and rushed here. and the story feels really, really dark, but the art style doesn’t really match that. there are some intense moments when they fight with anomalies yet the art style falls short on delivering the tension: the color palette is too bright and too lively, and there aren’t too many details in the drawings (anomalies, backgrounds, environment; everything looks more or less generic and pretty forgettable) to really leave any kind of impact on me. like i feel the artist doesn’t have enough skill and/or confidence in drawing such things, and it really takes away from the atmosphere. the sexual assault scenes also feel underwhelming. like it’s clear the mc gets raped/sa by all these people yet i don’t feel any of the emotions he must feel. i think it’s yet again partly the fault of the art style being too “light” for a story with such heavy subject matters. other than that, it feels like some things from the novel were left out, so i guess i’m gonna first read the novel and then maybe finish this webtoon, because i really have a feeling that the story itself has so much potential but it’s the adaptation that kinda fails to deliver.

i thought it was gonna be about vampires… anyway, the incest and age regression kinks go hard in this one. but i kinda liked it, though i kinda wished that the author would commit some more to how fucked up both of them are, but intstead the story was weirdly wholesome and kinda goofy. wasn’t bad but could’ve been better. also, when can we get an actual incest in a korean webtoon? all these authors are just teasing with this step brothers bullshit while being afraid to fully commit to the idea. the fact that they’re blood related is what makes incest feel sooo good. at least here they embraced the fact that they always treated each other as family and kept calling each other brothers.
god damn it’s such a hard read, not just because there’s so much graphic rape shown but also because there’s barely anything positive or hopeful happening to contrast that and give the reader some room to breathe. it’s one thing somehow nice happening to geom and then twenty absolutely horrific and utterly traumatizing that follow right after. also, i have no idea how on earth geom has no STDs or his hole is still intact after so much unprotected and violent rape he had to endure. it’s also hard to believe that every single man that sees geom even breathing instantly wants to fuck him and just happens to be extremely violent and sadistic during it.
other than that, i can’t help but be intrigued by rieder’s character. he’s absolutely vile and seemingly has no empathy at all, finding pleasure in seeing more and more ways of geom getting broken, yet still caring about him if only to keep him as a toy for just a little longer. at one point when prosecutor lee meets with rieder, he thinks that geom and rieder are similar to each other and once he pointed that out, i couldn’t stop thinking about it. there’s something in rieder’s empty and emotionless gaze that is both mysterious and just hopeless, and given what the story has implied so far, i think he probably went through some hell himself, maybe not the same in terms of intensity as geom, but i think there were some things that happened in his past that stripped him from his humanity completely and i’m so fascinated with what they were. i just wish we can learn something more about him, especially with how chapter 57 ended, because so far, he’s been a pretty interesting but still quite one-dimensional character purely because we know basically nothing about him and his past.
