Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure adam is doing this on purpose. He has no intention of being with anyone else, but wants to make joel jealous so he faces his attraction to him
I agree, and honestly, I hate this trope. So somebody feels insecure in their emotions so we should try to hurt them in order to get them to recognize or admit their feelings? Instead of being honest, open, or supportive? It only messes a person up more and honestly, it isn't right because it confuses people. Even if they only see you as a friend irl, if you suddenly pull away, act coldly, and stop being friends, it would hurt anybody and they would miss having you in their life. Its manipulative and gross. It also sends the message that friendship with you isn't good enough and through the lens of somebody young and insecure could send the message that they are merely an object of desire, that their personality is undesirable as a friend and that the only way ppl will like them is for their looks or etc. I had a guy I was close friends with do that kind of thing to me to try to make me jealous and manipulate me...and it worked. Suddenly, somebody I talked to daily and was close with no longer talked to me and instead immediately started hanging out with another girl that looked very much like me. It confused and hurt me, even though I honestly had no romantic feelings for him. He was a bad person that constantly manipulated me and went as far as feigning suicidal tendencies to try to get me to date him. Turns out, he did that to multiple people. Its a really messed up thing to do irl.
Oh god I'm confused what happened at the end??
