I enjoyed a bit reading the translator’s notes bc we have very different tastes and opinions so it was interesting but I feel like there were many times when the translator completely missed what the author was doing. Like i’m pretty sure the author never tried to justify wookyung raping minho even if minho got an erection bc the whole point of the rape was minho *NOT* enjoying it (he even puked during and after the whole thing). Also when wookyung told minho to move out in the hospital, it was clearly bc wookyung finally realized he’d rather let minho be free than miserable with him. If wookyung actually meant what he had said (about how looking at minho disturbed him and he’d had enough etc.) then why spend days at his bedside waiting for him to wake up? This was made clear by the final chapter where wookyung admits that he actually wants minho to stay.
I think the translator sometimes conflates what duna/wookyung was thinking or saying to what the author themselves think. But duna and wookyung were never meant to be reliable narrators; if anything they kept questioning themselves and changing throughout the story, they sometimes justify their own actions with flawed logic or even lied, and its up to the readers to think and come to conclusions on their own. If u’re expecting the story to spoonfeed u the answers then of course u will come out of it thinking “what the heck?? Do people actually think this way?” Its like watching American Psycho and thinking the moral of the story is that its okay to kill people.
Anyway, the author even left it as an open ending (where its unclear whether wookyung would truly change or not and whether they could be happy or not) so its up to the readers to decide whether or not minho made the right decision.

I’m glad to see this kind of comment. I found the whole story extremely interesting and felt all the jabs the translator took at it were kinda shallow. It’s a hard hitting tragic story with characters that have complex minds that try to justify their abnormal rationality. Seeing Minho’s downward spiral also hit hard cause I felt the same way, it’s crazy to read something that stirs your feelings up so much. That’s why I think heavy topics are so interesting to read and I’m sad not everyone sees that!

Yeah, the translator was very biased for minho which sadly made them perceive everyone’s character more 2 dimensionally instead of understanding that each character is complex with their own flaws and struggles. People downplays minho’s emotional abuse on duna then fails to grasp the significance of ch.35: he finally realized putting duna down wouldn’t have made him happy, he felt off and uncomfortable bc he successfully made her into someone he wanted, which is not her true self.
On the other hand people refuses to sympathize with wookyung who clearly grew up emotionally and physically abused by his mother, although u can clearly see how this fucked up his perception of love and even sense of self.
Both characters have a lot of baggage and people just reduced them to two dimensional abuser and victim roles, completely forgetting that these are fictional characters and we are not judges on criminal court.

The translator was so annoying, I never seen long notes on every page/ end of the chapter before.

I do think this manhwa is great in the way that chun duna as the female lead is a complex character and not a good person (which is rare for a female MC), but knowing how patriarchal and misogynistic south korean society is definitely makes this manhwa 100x more enjoyable.
Chun Duna who doesn’t cook, doesn’t do housework, and fucks men in the ass, can get a chance of redemption and happy ending where she is a successful novelist with a stay at home boytoy washing her dishes. No one else is beating this diva.

Jegra October 19, 2024 4:37 pm

I like how despite this being omegaverse it still reads like any usual manhwa and not centered around omegaverse. Like the fact that MC can get pregnant is just a normal world building in the background lol

I actually find the MC interesting because she is not ur typical kind, brave, or selfless female MC. She’s a realistic character who grew up with abusive and emotionally manipulative parents. What happened with the ML was complex and not as simple as “MC is a bad person who only thinks about herself”. Years of abuse by your primary caregivers will seriously fuck up a person’s mentality.
She did not resist when her parents made them break the engagement and had her engaged with other men because her whole life has been controlled by her parents. This is the effect of years or even a decade of learned helplessness. For example, menstrual cramps hurt right? But imagine u’ve drank every medicine and tried every methods but none of them worked and every doctor u saw said that this is normal. U eventually learn to accept that cramps is painful and u can only suck it up. Its like a dog that keeps getting electrocuted no matter how much it barks and struggles; it doesn’t understand why its in pain and doesn’t know how to stop it, so it eventually just accepts the pain as a normal part of its life.
She said horrible crap to the ML but i don’t think its something she genuinely believes: she’s just parroting her parents bc that’s how she can accept that they’re not meant to be together. Subconsciously her mind will always seek her father’s approval bc that is what abused children do with their abusive caregiver. This is her lot and she can only survive by following them.
Of course what she did was still fucked up and its understandable that the ML was very hurt, but she did love him and probably still does. With the MC’s power i won’t be surprised if she eventually ends up sacrificing herself for the ML.

1. We know that bada is the only one who remembers every round regardless of whether he gets to save the game or not (because he knows what happened if u don’t save, which is u will lose the items in previous round).
2. So far doha is the only person who can kill the killer or any other NPCs. However it seems like all 6 of them can kill each other.
3. There are more than 2 cassette tapes and more than 2 cassette players. If bada was the sole player he would only need one to save his progress, so what is the function of multiple tapes?
Now what if all 6 of them are “players” but they are just each equipped with different abilities? And they need to work together to be able to beat the game. By progressing through the story bada can unlock more cassette tapes and get more players in his team. But of course doha hides the cassette tapes which could be for multiple reasons:
1. Because he is possessive
2. Because if the other characters become self aware they would be harder to kill => harder to trick them to collect endings.
Remember when doha asked bada what if he wasn’t the only player and if he has to compete with other players to collect clues and endings?

i understand sports anime isn't meant to be realistic but this is starting to require too much suspension of disbelief lmao
also speed used to be chigiri's only thing, now everybody moves like snails on nitro

Jegra October 4, 2024 5:07 pm

I’m giving it a chance but if the ML turns out to be as bad as his brother is then i’ll bail…

    Disi October 10, 2024 1:19 pm

He's for sure hiding something. I know the younger brother is an ass but the way he describes the older brother is concerning compared to how he appears to behave. I am worried he's manipulating MC too.

why are people complaining about the plot "not progressing" when nam doha has been getting more and more suspicious and redflaggy each chapter wtf
last time they had that marathon sex he easily offed the killer through the window BAREHANDED (he wrestled the killer's knife). he successfully lured everyone to their deaths this round with just a little scrap on his arm. i feel like everyone had also forgotten how in the first chapter the villager didn't attack doha first, they seemed to be talking and doha pointed at something before attacking him from the back. does that seem like self defense? meanwhile bada has been getting increasingly soft on doha and distracted by sex.
u guys think the plot is about the horror game's "backstory" but what if the plot here is actually nam doha? he's a sentient horror game psychopath NPC who is obsessed with pi bada and u think if bada successfully collects all the clues he will let bada complete the game and leave it quietly? the biggest detriment to bada completing this game will be nam doha. the plot of the manhwa is their relationship.
