Some kinda time issue is happening as i think mc may have been the last to get sucked in but he was the first to finish, make a detailed guide, and it years later got popular and kept the early suckers alive
it seems like he was the last one to finish because he was the only one to finish on the normal/hell mode and not on the broken ass easy cheat modes like everyone else. so they could use his guides that he'd been making over the years and fly through on the cheat modes
