first couple is so cute but omg... ayoung pisses me off SO BAD shes so extremely frustrating. she wants everything from jae in but never explains herself or give jae in any leeway. now dont get me wrong jae in can be frustrating too but this is her first time experiencing these things and she has no idea how to label them. and ahyoung just wines about it even though SHE KNOWS JAE IN HAS A HARD TIME GRASPING THESE CONCEPTS. she gets mad over everything and even when jae in tries something its never good enough it always has to be on her very specific terms. also the whole "dislike" thing.. i didnt understand it all its so extremely frustrating.
It is subtle, but ah young's relationship hangups all come from comphet and the associated trappings of how hetero relationships are portrayed and given certain expectations, and she has to work a lot of that out. It's very clear she kind of figured Jae In would know the "guy" social cues and maneuvers, like when the ex started talking to her, or how she expected Jae In to understand that her no meant yes when saying "don't contact me", which is one of the nastier hang ups of patriarchal hetnormativity that was the crux of her character. She struggles with being honest and those typical M/F conventions greased the wheels on her not giving herself the agency she needed, or else formed the habit of passively ceding it to the other person. The narrative was about how that really isn't going to work. By the time they get to the play bickering at the end, they are actually being honest and communicating properly, reaching a compromise that doesn't overstep each others agency or feelings.
"Dislike" was simply what was capturing that sense of like, "I'm not supposed to want this" a convenient misrepresentation of her feelings because again, she was scared to claim them for what they were, as Jae In was as well. When she is wondering what Jae In thinks about how dating works, she's quietly asking herself what it means to be dating Jae In, who is not in fact, anything like anyone she's dated before.
WASN'T THAT ENDING TOO ABRUPT????
