but I just can't take this. This story is just too cruel all around and unless I could have a guarantee that it had any happiness in it at all, I just can't.

That has to be the absolute most confusing summary I've ever read... I think I know what is going on, but it's so confusing that It could be the literal opposite of what I think this is supposed to be about, and I wouldn't even be fazed.
I have SO many theories, and they can't help but change every other chapter! (Up to ch.15).
PLEASE NO SPOILERS BEYOND CH.15
1. I think the knight is the only person in this, (besides MC) who isn't extremely sus.
2. I want to fall for the Duke because he is insanely hot, but I just can't seem to trust him. I don't think he is a bad as the story is making him out to be, any think that MC will end up with him. That said, he's made a LOT of small comments and expressions at such sus times that I just don't think he's quite as innocent as I want him to be. All that said, I do think that the creators of this wasn't is to think he's the bad guy, when he's not so, in the way he's portrayed.
3. I DO NOT trust her brother. I want to, but I've been burned by a seemingly kind kindred spirit one time too many to not keep my defenses up. If he isn't the secret mastermind, he's my favorite character. That said... alongside this theory, I had theorized that the brother was the one who had slept with her the first time. I thought that all of this was his plot to have complete dominance over a sister he couldn't dream to keep by his side in a romantic way otherwise.
4. Stepmother (queen) is behind everything mc thinks she is, but it's not because queen hates her, but because either:
a) she is doing her son's bidding because she's obsessed with him to an unhealthy degree or
b) she is doing everything she can to keep her son (who's actually extremely fucked up) from marrying his own sister against her will, which would bring me to...
5. The queen isn't the mastermind and is actually trying to help. She put the curse on her so the prince wouldn't want her anymore due to being "damaged goods". It would also explain why she was so gung-ho about her marrying the Duke.
6. Mc's mom wasn't a dark mage, the person who put the curse on MC is the person who her mom was framed in place of. They found that putting the blame on MC's mom not only gets rid of mom, but makes it easier to control MC too; which is why I'm convinced it's either the now Queen mother, or/and the king.
Regardless of all of this, I still trust pretty much no one in this story.

I'm nearly convinced mother and son are effing. That is a creepy as fuck level of bodily contact for someone to have with their own adult child... but we've not actually seen them push it into effed up town...
