(Those she didn't kill, she sold into slavery.) When her daughter was born, she planned to kill her and switch her with a male child so that she could remain the Empress of the Eastern Empire. It was only after she heard gossip from the maids that Sovieshu adored her daughter that she took an interest in her daughter's welfare, and played up the whole "distraught mother wanting to see her daughter" routine. Her baby daddy actually DID want to marry her and set her free, but because his father disagreed and he feared his father, he never had the nerve to go against his wishes.
Ergi is Sovieshu's half brother. His mother was the favored concubine that Sovieshu's mother (the former empress) framed for the poisoned cookies that Sovieshu and Navier ate as kids. He teamed up with Heinry to destroy the Eastern Empire.

Nope. The other priests realized it's not good to be around Gabriel, however, they didn't officially lowered his rank, nor did they kick him out. And they're not gonna do anything about him, cuz they can't kick a high ranking (and by public beloved) priest without any solid reason. Keep in mind, that only main characters and the church know about Gabriel's faction's wrongdoings. And the other 'good' priests aren't gonna expose the truth simply cuz of the backlash the church would get from the public.
Right now, Gabriel is still a very powerful and high ranking priest who even has his own group of priests following him cuz they believe in his ideology.
So that's why they can't reject him, he's still officially a high ranking priest of this empire's church and is beloved by all.
