It's a BL omegaverse. The story's mythology about fated mates is about a wolf (alpha) and a white deer (omega).
There were 2 childhood friends. One was the alpha prince descended from the wolf, while the omega descended from the white deer was only allowed into the palace because the 2 were confirmed to be fated mates. The prince wanted to defy or question the concept of being tied down to just one person, while the omega wanted to be of use to the prince by trying to become a civil servant/ official (unheard of for an omega and future wife of the king).

I'm gonna miss this whole dynamic once she turns back into a human. Same thing with the Hawk Princess. They had more chemistry when she was a hawk. Hopefully this series can do it better

ML: we can't be in love! Because of politics, hierarchy, but I'm still jealous & overprotective

Agreed. Even if the MC used to be an animal or a pet, their shared time together made a connection, a friendship. They have a dynamic, they know each other's quirks, the MC has seen the ML while he's alone & vulnerable, the ML has seen the MC interacting with him without the burden of hierarchy. That chemistry shouldn't disappear just because the MC becomes human again. Even with the hierarchy now becomes an obstacle. While they talk alone, there should be that lingering friendship that they do know each other, beyond the veil of human/animal form.
Trueee, same thing with the manhwa about the FL turning into a crow. It was interesting when she was a crow but as soon as she turned into a human, her focus was learning palace duties and paperwork so her personality mellowed out a lot and became boring
