Tomorrow I'm going to attend classes at university for the first time, and I'm feeling kinda depressed because I had to choose to study for something that wasn't really what I wanted. My parents are not particularly strict, but they clearly did not want me to go for Art-centered Unis because they think that we live in a country where you can't find a job if you are an artist. Sadly, I know they aren't wrong. It is true that is really difficult. So, I chose a uni in which I have to study subjects I'm good at. Actually I did not think about my future. I was feeling under pressure so much and I wanted to find some relieve by making a choice that was "the right choice" for my parents. I don't want to disappoint them. But I'm feeling unhappy. I'm also psychologically weak and I hope that I will be able to feel ok and don't stress more that expected because of the fact that I'm not studying something I love. I don't want to drop it after one year...
probably not the thing you're looking for but I regret leaving my own room and giving it to my brother now I can't have it back T^T he doesn't know how much I did for him!!!
I'm kinda similar. But I dropped art as a major. Tho it can still stay as ur hobby?? Did u really want art as ur major? Cuz sometimes people get mixed up with a hobby they like. But if ur answer remains the same...then maybe transfer next semester or something? And begin making choices that u won't regret.
Ey man, I do art in university, Animation actually. Depending on what you're doing you can still get a job. Ever hear of the website "Behance" it's an online portfolio where many different types of artist from all over the world post their works. And they can get attention from people who are looking for an artist to make certain things for there company, or just something to hang at home.
Art is becoming more and more recognized in its importance weather it's logo/web design or a collage on a wall. For example a restaurant with good interior design and some nice paintings on the wall. Versus a shady place that doesn't even have matching chairs. Which on would appeal to the general audience.

First of all, thank you for your concern. (●'◡'●)ノ Did I want art as my major? Well, my free time is often occupied by art. When I'm inspired I feel refreshed, energetic. And when I'm painting or drawing I feel complete and happy, even if I have low skills. Create something gives a feeling that is so precious to me and that I would treasure forever. That's why my dream is to make a living by being creative, by being who I am. My parents have always tended to suppress this side of me. But I know for sure I'll do a job that will drain the life out of me if I don't study for a different certification. I'll think about what to do to change the situation. Thanks again for your words.

Hey noodle ( sorry I just can't address strangers properly and that was the most neutral thing that came to my mind... ), first of all thanks for your comment! I know, today art is linked to the economy/industry and because of that it should give people employment, of course. But where I live there aren't many opportunities ( and that's a paradox because I live in Italy...well, not in a big city such as Milan or Rome ). I would really like to be an art director, but I can't afford moving to another city and paying for a private uni with just my money. Even if I try to save money, one year of savings would not be enough. I'm just 19 after all. Sad story ╥﹏╥ I wish I could win the lottery ahahah

Noodle is cool. xD Yeah, Hmmm all I can say is online portfolio sites. But to stick out and be scouted does require you to have a bit of skill and education, I know some people are able to make it big without having gone to an art school though but it would be hard being in a smaller town. Well, if you're able to find a way, I'd encourage you to go for it. Art director sounds damn cool though.
