Same, I don't think it's grooming either, I see it more like an obsession. The king decided early on at 13 that MC was the one for him and never let go even though MC wasn't thinking of him that way. The hand holding and kissing also can be seen as a childish thing done by the huge crush he was having on MC and him not knowing how to convey it because he also was an innocent kid back then.
The demoting thing was foul though, the king indeed meddled with MC's life plans. But knowing now that the reason was because his marriage proposal got ignored, it seems more like a childish tantrum than a mean thing.
It's only chapter 5 though but so far their childhood friends situation doesn't seem too bad.
