Uke and seme are really degrading terms for gay men and really cringey just call them with a nickname if you can't remember the name instead of what position you think they'll be/are in bed
Edit: damn a lot of you are offended what I'm saying is these terms are degrading cause then some girls think it's okay to call a real gay guy a uke or seme lemme just say people don't like that it's real cringey and makes you seem like a fetishist
What are u a sjw?
It’s literally just another way of saying top or bottom. Gay men say it all the time. On another topic best nickname on this site is “don’t close close mountain/redhead” lmao
faggot and faggot
Well...at least you’re self aware this is an unpopular opinion..
UKE AND SEME LITERALLY ARE WHAT POSTITIONS THEY ARE IN BED. sorry lol. uke and seme are japanese words describing what position they are. uke translated to english means receiving and seme in google translate means TO ATTACK LOL. no but i dont feel like its degrading, some people say in real life there is no top and bottom and yeah some people irl like to swap but there are also people who prefer a side. and since this is manga and manhwa and so forth there are gonna be people saying uke and seme because most of the stuff on here is japanese ;p. but i respecc ur opinion anyway. thanks for listening to my TED talk.
Uke and Seme are just the japanese terms for top and bottom in BL mangas and fanfictions. Also for the mangas if you don't like usint uke and seme theres always the tachi and neko where tachi is the top and neko(meaning cat but in BL mangas it refers to the position of bottom) is the bottom. But if you are new to BL thrn get used to it cause most people call then uke and seme to make it easier to either describe or explain. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
I can understand that.
Part of the problem is unawareness - one can use the terms in that way because others do and so it appears correct and inoffensive; the other part is that BL creators (whether or not it's appropiate) generally sort their characters routinely into these roles, which means calling them "uke" or "seme" has a literary element such as "protagonist" and "antagonist".
Of course, that doesn't mean people should just live in ignorance and perpetuate an insenitive or generally inaccurate way of describing characters, and that other people shouldn't make them aware. It just means that there's less harm intended than mere general laziness and uncaring, in many cases.
I’m gay and it’s okay to say them when referring to fictional characters but u right it’s weird asf when ppl do it irl 0.o like why r u assuming who’s which...
Anyone have any good manga that have a yaoi/shounen ai pairing but it isn't the main focus of the story something like no.6 with maybe a bit more romance

Today I spent all day reading a Chinese bl novel (favourite thing ever) I decided yo read another beacaue why not. I went onto one that had a nice cover and summary (school delinquent x class president) it was from the perspective of the delinquent. He has a hatred towards the prez but thinks he's very pretty. I thought this was gonna go happy and all dat. But nOOoOoo delinquent had to go rape the kid cause he "offended him". His perspective was horrible all he talked about was how he loved raping him. He raped him and said he SUFFERED HIM NOT THE PREZ. thank you to whoever read my mini rant (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ don't trust pretty covers and nice summaries
What are things that make you instantly put down a yaoi? For me it's incest (even not blood related) large age gaps and rape/abuse...im curious what it is for fellow fujoshis
eh..thats like 80% of yaoi ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭ for me would be child abuse ╥﹏╥
If the dude looks like a lady
I'm probably the pickiest reader ever.
Rape/abuse turned to love trope - Pet/owner - Dom/Sub kink
Shotacon/ pedo
Flurry
Omegauniverse/ Mpreg stuff
Incest
Uke looks and behaves like a girl
Uke is supposed to be an adult but has the stature and face of a preteen.
That means 99% of Yaoi stories are out of my shelf.
I'm not the same anon who posted that but I have the same pet peeve with yaoi stories who make the uke look like a girl so I'll add my bit if you don't mind.
It is degrading when:
- it's done based on a stereotype of gay couples. It's not a coincidence that it's always the uke who is made look like a girl. Where this association comes from? From the very archaic and prejudiced idea that no real men would accept the role of being fucked by another man. Thus the trope of creating ukes that are resemble girls as much as possible or the so called 'chicks with dicks'. Another proof of this stereotype is that very few couples in Yaoi are sekes because who would believe a 'girl looking' guy to be a top?
- It's done based on a stereotype of girls in relationships. Again, it's always the uke who takes the appearance of girl and most of the time the girly uke is written with very stereotyped ideas of women. They are naive, submissive, they are abused, forgiving, they are the ones who blush and they are almost always the ones being chased.
10 out of 10 stories with gay men in Yaoi that has one of the partners looking like a girl do it to fit into the stereotypes above.
The problem is not that one of the guy looks like a girl but the reason why the story needed to make him look like one and that's what makes the representation degrading.
I honestly wish more yaoi avoided this it would make for such an interesting story. I hate that there are pretty much no sekes the role of uke is oh this guy is shorter or looks more like a girl, even though those things are simply not a factor. The stereotype type is so untrue of course there are couples that follow it but most at least from my experience aren't. I love the way you phrased this and personally agree with all of it
i feel bad when i read this comment XD
plz dont kill meh i actually enjoy most of the stuff you just listed ;-;'
if i were to be honest, i would immediately put down a yaoi if all they ever do is have... you know... sex. like, window to window had a good plot, but after a while, all they did was just have sex. it was kinda disappointing. I like interesting plots and what not, having a dark back story would actually be very appealing to me. I also dont like it when the plot doesn't move. All they do is avoid each other and nothing happens. Whelp, thats all i got to say. GTG DO HW YO
A lack of communication i have to think of A Guy like you webtoon xD
bad characterization of character with no redeeming qualities yet still ends up happy without consequences of their actions, bad love triangles, tsunderes, cliches storylines, cheap plot where its just sex and no story, where one of them cheats and its apparently okay, where uke is weak and frail asf, and harem, where everyone attacks uke for a piece of his ass or where everyone is attracted to him.
Killing stalking is yaoi? why? ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
Pedophilia, shotacon, rape/abuse to love, misoginya, machism, biphobia, stupid/unnecessary missanderstandings, too much fluids during sex (yk?), uke/seme trope like almost every BL, lazy narrative, misconception of BDSM, glorification of toxic relationships without a second lecture....
Omegaverse and bad or incredibly old art.
It's very odd, I don't like omegaverses because most of the time, it portrays rape in a deserved or controversial light. It conflicts with my morality although I know it's fiction. I'm actually fine with reading actually terrible rape because we all know and it's implied that it's immoral. Funny enough, rapey semes from normal yaoi manga only sometimes put me off because I think the uke can sometimes techincally get out of those situations. I think what sets me off is the fact that omegas can be knotted to basically their rapists and/or rape is dismissed in that universe because it is hard for alphas to control themselves.
I'm just very picky with art nowadays and I can't really do much about it. It kind of sucks because I might be missing out on a good story because I'm solely judging it on the art. For example, I used to love Sekaiichi Hatsukoi but now I can't even read the manga anymore because the art (and the stories now I guess) kill me a little.
These are just my preferences. You are free to like what you like and I'm not going to bash you for it.
Sekaiichii hatsukoi has an horrible art. It distress my eyes and the story is based in the most stupid misunderstanding I have ever read in a story and from that circles of the same situations.
Old style art used to mean bad and cliche/boring stories so I associated it and cant handle them either with exceptions.
Omegaverse is like a lobotomy in manga form. Fate and free rape to make lazy yaoi mangakas to thnk even less about their stories.
I really wonder how you find yaoi manga to read ( ._.)
I swear that 98% of yaoi manga have at least one thing you dislike.
I wouldn't be able to read much yaoi manga if I had your preferences and I'm already nitpicky enough that I've run out of new yaoi manga to read :/
(I'm not bashing your preferences, I'm just genuinely curious as to how you find yaoi manga that you're fine with.)
i agree. i do like the concept of omegaverse because i used to read it in fanfics and whatever, but ever since it came to the manga world, it been a shit show. its all rape and its a hierarchy. it seems that people only like the story because the omegavese label is slapped onto it, even though the story is like any other typical non omegavese story. and i cant believe some morons on here actually want to live in an omegaverse world. and yeah, sekkaiichi and junjou is just getting old and boring. its like any other story, except the others are condensed into one volume while sekkkai and junjou are long and dragged out.
hold my apple juice i have a list
- age gaps
- illogical rape (uke falls in love and forgets about the fact he was abducted, abused then raped)
- body design makes no sense
- children are included
- the dudes look like women
- it's a fanfiction or dj
- incest
- bad story line
- the characters are stupid
- the story is overdramatic
- the story has 0 logic
- the characters are just dull
- it's just fucking and then they're lovers (I want some development)
- Really bad art (eyes are oversized, faces look weird, no body proportions)
- dude has a harem
- tsundere ukes
- one of them never stops the other dude or even attempts to
etc.
Hold my green tea
most of my favorites are shounen-ai, but here are my yaoi favorites lmao. they might break some rules but i let it pass just cause it was super funny or super cute.
http://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/liquor_cigarette/ (bootyful art, I love the pacing, it's pretty great)
http://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/december_rain/ (at least for now, the story got me, hooked man)
http://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/shinyuu_tte_soko_made_shinakucha_ikenai_no/ (just funny as heck, a bit awkward scenes that don't flow well but overall pretty enjoyable)
http://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/the_perfect_relationship/ (don't know yet, but like this story line is pretty interesting af too)
dunno if y'all will like those, but these are my preferences.
Sounds like you only like stereotypical stuff. Short uke and tall seme. I get that incest would be a turn off for most people because its pretty much morally wrong, and bara, because its geared towards gay men, not straight women, but seriously, taller uke and shorter seme? And do you have something against thicker people or something? Is you for real?
Anyone know any emotional rollercoaster romance stories bl preferably but as long as it's gonna make me cry
