It was dark and disturbing and not everyone's cup of tea, but the art is gorgeous and it shows a view of japanese society we rarely get to see.

Give this a try!

Rexaphon June 20, 2019 6:52 am

I know this has been asked before but why isn't there a Killing Stalking anime?

Some ppl say cause its v dark n controversial but theres plenty of such anime and honestly? A lot of it is SHIT compared to KS. Even if dey cut out d sex parts or even made Bum into a girl, I would pay good money to watch it.

    Mero June 20, 2019 11:35 pm

Well anime is Japanese and the ones that are based on written work come from Japanese manga. Killing Stalking is a Korean webtoon so yeah I don't see how that would work

you know theres anime from Korea as well right? The director of Train to Busan directed a few anime movies before he switched to film. Di Wang Gong Lue BL anime released in China last year so I don't see y KS shouldn't be funded as well, esp seeing KS success and international fame

uhm. no. Sorry, you are under a complete misconception. Anime was originally Japanese, but there are many Chinese and Korean anime with the anime conventions/art style but dubbed in Chinese/Korean. I could name a few. There are many webtoons, Korean ones, with web-broadcasted anime. The simple answer is that being gay is basically illegal and you can be sent to an asylum so the BL genre isn't that publicly able to make a profit in Korea. Also, censorship and the target audience willing to publicly express their interest in this genre is too small to make a profit.

Yeah, Yeon Sang-ho worked on animated works such as The King of Pigs but how is that anime? Outside of Japan, anime is a term used to describe animations that have specific Japanese style which The King of Pigs and other Korean animated series do not have. Even then, there are shows like Avatar the Last Airbender and The Bondoocks that are done in Japanese style and we do not consider them anime because the feel and the content are different from actual anime or simply because they are not Japanese. There exist some Chinese animations that are in Japanese style but I don't think that's enough to make them anime just like how manhua is different from manga. Only Japanese style anime produced by a Japanese animation house is what's usually accepted as anime. To begin with, Killing Stalking, like a lot of Korean content, isn't even in Japanese style.

In my honest opinion, for Killing Stalking to have an actual anime, the art needs to be changed into Japanese style, and then the project needs to be taken by an anime house (yes, in Japan). However, we all know that if you change Killing Stalking into actual anime art style it won't feel like Killing Stalking anymore. Now if you just meant that you wanted it to have an animation adaptation (aka a cartoon) then hell I'm on board too but I'm just saying all this cause I'm tired of people mixing anime, webtoons, manga, mahua, manwha, and all that good comic content in a single pot without being able to differentiate them. It's like every time I see someone describe a webtoon as a yaoi I die a little. It's BL not yaoi damn it. Gotta get that vocab straight.

BL= Boys Love. Shounen ai= boys love without sexual content. Yaoi=BL with mature content. I'm pretty sure things Like Winter Sonata, King's Avatar (Quan Zhi Gao Shou), Spirit Pact, Xie Wang Zhui Qi etc. is considered anime and has been dubbed over by Japanese as well and taken into account for "anime" rewards in Japan itself even though its origins are not Japan. Japanese animation refers to a style, not a country of origins. Things like Momonoke (weird art style) or Devilman:crybaby, Violet Evergarden are anime but not produced in Japan.

LOL NO, on so many levels. Homosexuality is not illegal in Korea my dear, gay sex is completely legal just that marriages are not recognised by law.

Censorship might be a bigger issue, thats true. But like I said, KS has reached international fame with videos on youtube that hav millions of views, it seems strange to me that no animation studio has picked it up yet. Maybe Lehzin doesn't want to sell d rights to KS? Idk man

", Article 92 of the Military Penal Code, singles out sexual relations between members of the same sex as sexual harassment, punishable by a maximum of one year in prison. " I'm not going to quote every source in existence, but at least during military service, gay sex is punished by marking suspects as "special needs" sending them to an asylum. There have been several cases of this and it is even mentioned in some Korean BL stories, journalist articles, and law academic journals where the law has been loop-holed to punish someone even after they've finished their military service. But if I'm wrong and all those contain false information please tell me how you know since I don't want to remain ignorant if the law has changed.

The word "anime" in Japan is just short for animation. For them, anything that is a cartoon is an anime. So even if you tell me Chinese animations won "anime" awards in Japan, I'm sorry to say that doesn't really make em recognized as anime by the rest of the world because, like I said, outside of Japan, the word anime means a different thing. Also, I'm very well aware of what each manga genre stands for. I don't need any explanation. What I'm trying to get to is that specific genres belong to specific entertainment content. Calling a webtoon a yaoi is erroneous because yaoi is a MANGA/ANIME genre. It only applies to MANGA/ANIME. It's just like how you don't say a tv show is rated R in the USA. The R rating is exclusively for films. For a tv show, the correct rating would be Tv-MA. For a video game, it would be M (for Mature). Get ya vocab straight.

According to the Criminal Code, sodomy is not illegal anywhere other than the military. You can find out more here: http://elaw.klri.re.kr/eng_service/lawView.do?hseq=28627&lang=ENG

And look, I'm not saying Korea is a paradise for gay pride, sure theres discrimination and its still a big issue but in the context of Killing Stalking, Bum was RAPED in the military, the sex was NEVER consensual. Rape in Korea, regardless of sexual orientation, is always illegal (under Article 297 Act 11574).

So the issue brought up in KS is not with homosexuality itself but with rape and the lack of consent between sexual partners. So I have to ask, what has this got to do with KS Anime?
There are PLENTY of illegal acts in anime Eg. Hentai is almost completely rape, some which include underage children yet you don't see them arresting hentai animators do you? Anime is not real, and it shouldn't be treated as such.

Therefore none of this answers my first qn - Why is there no Killing Stalking Anime?
