Read until chapter 45. I'll probably finish it, but I am having a serious issue with this story. I think it wouldn't bother me if I knew Prince Changyi was pretending to be dumb and childish to survive within the palace. However, it has been shown and stated by many that his childish innocence isn't an act but the result of a brain injury. So I have serious reservations about any potential love interest for the prince as his ability to enter a relationship with anyone would be at a child's understanding. His trip to the brothel just reinforced my belief he really can't consent, and, he's indeed a child with a childlike curiosity but with a man's body. As for Pei Zheng, he's scum. Just pure garbage. Getting revenge on the imperial family is fine, but his need to play/manipulate with childlike Changyi -- just pure complete unadulterated SCUM!!
After my previous long post: Y'all should really read the novel as it has more insight to the abuses Ruby faced from both of her families: modern and isekai'd.
Or just do some research on RL abused people and see how hard it is and was for those individuals in those situations to admit they were being abused and to seek help.
Y'all are severely lacking empathy for Ruby. Her situation isn't as simple as open and tell Issac what her family has done to her in the past and what her brother, Caesar, continued to do to her. Just acknowledging her fear of turtles and letting Issac view her scarred body was two big and huge steps for Ruby. Y'all forget that in the beginning Issac wanted to send Ruby back home, so worked hard to get him to like her and not send her away. And then, the first time they tried to be intimate and he discovered her scars he basically went flat and she had to lie about how she received them.
As an abused person in her previous life where her confidant committed suicide, she wakes up in a new world and life and her situation hasn't gotten better. In fact, her life is much more difficult than her previous life. In the modern world, she had a chance to run away from her abusers and seek treatment to live a better life. New life -- she doesn't have that opportunity as she's basically the princess of a holy country. A illegitimate daughter and a female with no power other than what is wielded by her father, older brother, and husband. Two of which continuously ruined her first 3/4 marriages, so she didn't even have the time to get an ally. And Ruby has to choose her ally well as they have to believe her AND have the power to step up and fight her family. None of her previous marriages had that ability.
So now, we have Rbuy shipped off to a foreign country, in unfamiliar environment where her greatest asset as a person who is abused is reading the people around her and gearing her responses to whatever would lessen their abuse upon her. But we can't forget, she is also trying to change the course of the novel, so she isn't killed by her new husband. But her ways of survival are useless -- her husband and sister-in-law are indifferent to her, the household staff don't respect her, and the family friend keeps setting her up to be a liar and a plotter. Even her sister-in-law saw Ruby's self abuse and didn't report it until much much later. Even Issacs first reaction was rejection to just scars, what would he do if he knew the extent of her abuse at her family's hands. Her job is survival and while she's gotten to a point where her husband might not kill her in the near future, but is his affection enough to start a war with her former homeland over her abuse? That's why she still hides the truth from Issac due her uncertainty in him and, perhaps, to protect him from Caesar. Plus, in the what-ifs, is she has to return with Caesar then she must placate him to reduce any violence against her.
The comments are full of misogynistic hate towards the females that appeared in this story. Not all the females are bad!! Gosh!! I'm not one who cares for a weak female character who always needs rescuing and brings nothing to the team either, but this not the case here.
The redhead was curious about the supposedly sickly MC and it grew more when he didn't seek her out. Yes, she foiled his plans, but she still held her own. MC's maid, Rona, is comic relief and her job is his maid nothing more. Second maid Djitri is a spy, but from a fallen family, so she may or may not have combat skills that remains unseen in the story so far. Don't write off all potential female characters just because you want the MC to be some Lone Wolf badass character.
As for treating the maids realistically -- the author may have dumbed down on some aspects, but they still clean up after him, feed him, and attend to his outrageous requests with the ability to complain without being disciplined harshly by Nox, as they have established that sort of bond with him. If you want subservient maids constantly being raped and abused by the lords of they serve go read some hentai. Trust me there is plenty of that fetish if you prefer your maids to be subjected to a harsh lord/nobel and treated like an object instead of a human.
I agree! I've seen a few comments talking Abt how the story is "sexualizing" the maids? When only one person in ch20 sexualized a maid once. Then I c ppl talking Abt how in 20chs there's already too many females around mc, when there's only been 3 females interacting with him, 2 maids n one noble. The noble left n ofc his maids r going to b with him. Finally, there's ppl saying that the mc n his maids interaction is like they have a crush. In most stories u rarely c servants without personality who only follow directions unless they're being controlled. Aside from the noble there hasn't been any hints of a crush or anything more than a master n his servants.
This is my 2nd manhwa where the premise is the MC has returned from the depths of Hell. And I like this story more than the other one on my reading list. This one shows you more of how the MC was able to survive in Hell and how he was able to get strong along the way. I also enjoyed the fact that when the MC suddenly got back to Earth he wasn't as overpowered as he once was. I like following him as he is regaining his hellish abilities. Also also, for once, I'm glad the MC does have family and friends who he wants to protect and vice versa. Plus, they missed him!! While I like reading the action scenes, I hope to get some regular family/friends daily life interactions.
I get tired of reading the same narrative of a loner MC who quickly becomes jacked/powerful now suddenly getting friends or acknowledge by family only because they are jacked/powerful. Authors it is all right to have family/friends who love and care for you. Your leading characters don't always have to be loners/dregs of society/orphans. I think having an already established support system in place adds a nice dynamic and added profundity to the character.
I'm gonna let this one go. I heard good things about the novel, but I can't handle this manhwa's various "translations". Perhaps, it's too late in the evening for me, but I keep getting thrown off by the different translations of names in a single chapter, text that seems to be out of order causing bad grammatical mayhem to occur, and poor pronoun usage when there is an obvious visual aid right there to help you choose the correct verbiage. Frickin' MTL!! (╯°Д °)╯╧╧
The dragon is cute though.
Why am I still here reading this story? WTH is wrong with me?! I've dropped series for less trauma than this that they have put me through!! All seriousness, I don't want the MC to be with any of them, not even Kitty Cat Chan, they are all too damaged and dangerous for the MC to really let his guard down around and feel safe.
Not a bad read. It's slightly boring in the beginning as it uses the trope of good princess vs cursed princess. We see the titular FL being ignored treated like a pariah except for, of course, a few characters who see beyond the prophecy. Truthfully, the FL doesn't get interesting until she let's loose on her family for their initial desertion and then sudden interest in her life.
So far, I only feel bad for Noah who is the second prince and is always overlooked and just given imperial hand-me-downs. If he wanted a relationship with the FL, even hidden, he should have applied himself more to develop that bond.
Amaryllis is not a villainess. She's a spoiled princess who was raised to be a spoiled princess. She hasn't even done anything villain worthy. Just acted out a couple of times -- pure spoiled behavior.
I really don't know what is happening anymore story wise. The multiple translated chapters by different groups plus characters name changes makes me wonder if panels are missing, especially since there's not a dedicated uploader for this series. If not, then the series has hit a wall. Yes, she's not supposed to be a pushover anymore, but a smart fiery avenger plotting against her family and those who tortured her. But we've barely seen her plotting!! We don't see her actively participating in bringing her homeland down using her position as Empress to work with the Emperor. Dealing with the concubines is one thing, but aren't they government hostages used for debts and trade? Stop burning them all and use your memories and brain to make them unnecessary like 4th (?) concubine. Lastly, I enjoy Sang, but, honestly I thought he'd play a bigger part in her life as someone akin to butler/spy/ informant mix. Now he's just background art wearing a muzzle. And remove that muzzle and give Sang a freaking facemask!!
YESS SPOKEN TRUE FACTSS...the story now is good, its fine as it is but it needs something to spice it up a bit...cuz now its just idk an ordinary stagnant plot?
Yes, that's what I was trying to say. I adore Las/Ras or whatever her name is now in the translations. ^_^ But I want to see more action from her using her mind and not just her magical ability. Honestly, I don't even care about the romance with the Emperor, he became useless to me after seeing my girl in action!! No insult gets taken lightly and she gives back as much, and probably more, as she received. Loved it!! But the story has, as you said, gotten stagnant, like the author doesn't know how to move our girl forward. Dealing with the concubines is fine, but she's supposed to Empress and using her abilities/memories to make her new country strong, she's gotten the trades, dealt with the boat, bomb threat, and a creepy Duke with penchant for live unwilling experiments. But there is more intrigue/struggle to be found in running a new country and trying to topple your former country. I need to see my girl working her brain and fire magic!! I'm still reading, but I want more from her and the plot. And Sang.
