I want to hear others' opinions on this, but here's my opinion:
I don't think it's homophobic to avoid yaoi because of the target audience and authors that write in this genre. As many of yall know if youve been here long enough, yaoi is written for GIRLS, by GIRLS for the most part. Close to none of these people actually have experience in a gay relationship, which gives me the impression that the "media representation" that many yaoi fangirls claim, isn't valid. It's also bold of me to state this as a straight girl, but this just rubs me the wrong way almost in the direction of fetishization. Now, this also doesn't mean that I'm cancelling yaoi though; I don't have a reason to, so I don't want to.
My opinion is don't think it's homophobic when you are not reading yaoi if you are a girl cuz everyone has their own preferences or things they want or dislike and whatever it is we should respect it

Damn im happy ppl actually agree with me here omfg. there is quite a hefty percentage of ppl here that give off mlm fetishizer energy and ig a lot of ppl defend this by saying NOT reading bl gl and the like is homophobia.
From personal experience, i guess i usually only read sl simply because i enjoy being in the fl's perspective and gives me the human interaction i can feel (while still knowing that this isn't a realistic depiction of love) so I can understand why straight girls that hate being in the fl's position like bl.
