If a story is going to have violence this is how it should be. It was called out as horrible and treated properly as abuse. In my opinion this is the only good reason to have violent acts in manga like this. Also as someone who was compared to my more outgoing sibling the entire time I was growing up I got some tears flowing because I totally get thinking that it would be better to disappear than continue to be compared.
I always find myself coming back to this story because it's so soothing. All the relationships are healthy with good communication and trust. The part where the grandparents fully accepted Masaki always makes me tear up a little because my grandparents never accepted my dad and therefore didn't accept me either. Seeing that it doesn't have to happen that way makes me happy that not everyone has the same experience as me but at the same time makes me a little sad for what I lost. So I can cry and then recover with the cuteness of the kids.
