He is thinking about Christmas because he was thinking about Mr S being a Christmas baby. But then Mr Sharpe touches his cheek like in the club. Subconsciously AJ has that desire for him but he can't quite picture it (yet???) But mr Sharpe's the one who pulls away because like in the car he said "it's just a performance" implying that it meant nothing to him ( but we know this is a LIE)
