I dropped this thing idk how many chapters ago now because I was just getting bored but I’ll offer my two cents.

I don’t think the hate is forced—people are legitimately frustrated with Jaekyung and how he’s written as a character. From the get-go he demonstrated himself to be an incredibly toxically masculine and abusive figure (or just toxic in general—violent, imposing, cocky, selfish, etc…if you don’t agree with these things then idk it’s truly a “you might want to reread” moment, and/or we interpret him and his actions in fundamentally different ways), and what makes it worse is that he’s doing all this against a character who can’t and doesn’t fight back, at least for a good portion of the webtoon thus far. I personally think it would’ve made for a more interesting/tolerable dynamic if he was matched with someone who could match his energy, like Heesung, or if Jaekyung was shown to be more, you know, actually attracted to Dan outside of him being his fucktoy…

For me personally I think I would’ve hated him no matter what—or at least I would’ve just been ambivalent towards him—but the thing that made him especially grating to me was the fact that 60+ chapters in we STILL didn’t have any rhyme or reason behind why he behaves the way he does. Like no backstory or anything to explain why he’s such an asshole. With Dan at least we were given pretty much everything we needed to understand his character and why he makes the choices that he does (even if he himself feels flat and shallow in his own way lmao) but with Jaekyung, at least where I stopped, we don’t know anything about his background. So he’s an asshole lacking depth, which is how you write a stock villain in a children’s cartoon series…not the main love interest in your adult webtoon, lol. Hence why the hatred for him ends up being so extreme. That’s what I think, anyway.
