Ein (dark hair) did get in an altercation with leto's (long hair) former partner, yanek, that does end up with yanek dying. The details about how it happened are really important though and will change how you feel about it.
At one point earlier in the story leto makes a comment about ein killing yanek that makes you feel one way but with the context your feelings about the matter will almost certainly change.
I really recommend reading from chapter 42 on!
