Wow, that takes me years back! I was 12 when I first heard the term "yaoi", though at first didn't know what it means. A friend recommended me a Harry Potter fanfic, saying that it's a yaoi. I had one, but we had a falling out and hadn't talked to each other fo a few years already. Though I have internet friends that love yaoi. Does it count, haha? And well, my childhood friend likes yaoi. She doesn't read it or anything, but she ships movie characters together sometimes and does things like that.   reply
