I watched Leon before I learned about the director and the filming process, and what they've done to Portman. So prior to that, I saw the film as Leon the hitman who'd become cold and heartless from his profession, and learned love in a little girl he saved and fathered. Before I learned the history of the film I saw it as a sweet father fostering an adopted daughter story, it was bittersweet. That was all before I learn about the creepy director though, and how the actor (Leon) managed to change the script last minute to protect Portman from that kind of abuse. Hollywood is a creepy place full of horrible people. I'd say to those who have no knowledge of the film background, definitely give Leon a shot. It's a good film, fantastically done but directed by a sick sick man.
