Hmmm. The first rule of the demon world is saying the name of a demon more powerful than you will destroy your soul. The second rule of the demon world is you have to unsettle a more powerful demon to surpass it.
Makoto has the advantage of being a deviant. (I love the complexity of his character.) When he was human he was afraid to give into his urges and hurt people--that is why he summoned J. He could abuse a demon in place of a human guilt free. He fully expected to cease to exist when his contract with J was over but J took him under his wings literally and into hell.
To remove his human smell, Makoto had to have sex...it was his first step towards becoming a demon. Up to that point Makoto was going with Js flow but he finally said I didn't want to become a demon, you wanted me too.. so he refused. J ripped off his head and his body lost its virginity while his head watched and felt some of the sensations. That experience SHOULD have drove Makoto mad but he shrugged it off as boring because he rather be the one doing than receiving whether sex or torture of someone else--I interpret it both ways. It unsettled Fjord that Makoto adapted so quickly--Fjord pondered this at the table. I don't know if some part of Makoto sensed this but when he asked J if he could be friends with him he used Fjord's name easily. Makoto has only been a demon for a few months and he was already surpassing folks.
BTW when Makoto unsettles Dsan he is using the next two rules...Demons use semantics, not just politics or networking to screw with each other's minds to unsettle others. And demons love gold nuggets from disintegrated human souls. That is chapter 7
