To me it's the writing, maybe that's the case for you too?
Some moments I think need more build up for a certain mood or emotions from characters, but it's just not done at all. Other times reactions are skipped entirely as if a sentence wasn't even said.
It's a bit bland in terms of writing in many moments. That's the 'missing' factor for me at least.
