AMAZING, the main character Lee (he has a longer name but I’m keeping it short bc autocorrect hates Asian names for some reason) was betrayed by his teammates and trapped in a demon tower. There are a LOT of similar high-quality aspects to Solo Leveling that I can point out. The story’s pacing, suspense, art style, the depth each character is given, and how all of them are multifaceted… but it’s also light. Comedic. There are moments that make you sad like when you learn of Lee’s backstory and WHY he became such a gruff, almost jaded, battle hungry person. Because let’s be real… Lee definitely covers up a lot of his stress and that with comedic or sarcastic jabs, and tends to verbally devalue the folks around him (EX: Calling Hugo, his best friend, a ‘slave’ or ‘servant’. Even making fun of him because his children like Lee more.) But then as soon as Hugo or ANY of his loved ones ended up in trouble, showed signs of despair, or otherwise needed a hand? Lee would be there.
Other aspects that are cool are that the Saints are blessed by the Gods of Zodiacs. That doesn’t mean that the constellations themselves are gods, but instead a god will represent a star sign. Like how Sagittarius’s Saint Hugo is supported by the god Apollo. Or how Virgo’s representative goddess is Artemis. (I’m guessing on that one, it’s a moon, virgin, maiden goddess. Could be another too) OR how Gemini’s Goddess is Freyja! There are lots of cool mythos added.
As for Lee? That man wasn’t even given a god’s blessing. Awakening on his own and gaining that strength through hard work and effort. Originally his class was a blacksmith. A fact that comes up often because Lee will make equipment for his friends and loved ones, along with reconstructing buildings or fixing holy artifacts. When Ophiuchus (the LARGEST constellation in the sky, and also the snake symbol that we see on the medicinal cross) deems Lee Geon worthy or whatever, it’s still through Lee’s own efforts and merit that his strength shines through. Not just suddenly more powerful out of nowhere. Granted the blessing definitely HELPS, stats going ^100, but that’s later on in the story.

A world of dungeons… the MC is pulled into the tower after training for years as a unawakened porter who’s often abused in dungeons. But now that he enters the tower, he has a chance to change that! Only to find that the large guilds of the world are purposefully misleading the newly arrived awakened?? Awakened also get multiple chances in case they fail, and when they run out of coins, they’ll be sent back to the real world! But… the MC ends up having infinite coins, and is able to rise through the level at great speed because of it, all while hiding his identity!

I was expecting this to be a reincarnation story where the MC has innate talent but a lazy personality… and it’s the exact opposite. Airen was stricken with grief at a young age after his mother’s passing, and refused to leave his bed for ten years. Comforted by the warm, scarlet maiden in his dreams who held him close and kept him safe. The same scarlet as his blankets, which shielded him from danger. But then, his dream changed. To a man, swinging his sword for an entire lifetime. This dream inspired Airen, who picked up the sword on his own… and the story unfolds from there.
There IS romance, but it’s handled very well and isn’t like a harem. All characters are well developed with their own personalities, aspirations, and backgrounds. The friendships are beautiful, family dynamics are good, and the villains make it easy to support the heroes. Very well done.
