The story is more of plot focus than smut. It covered a lot of aspects like homophobia, racism, gaslight, murder & psychopath, the dark side of entertainment industry, drugs, etc.
It may be not everyone taste because author put a lot of conflicts. Couple itself is seke/switch.
I do find dark heaven really good, but maybe you don't like some point/aspect of the story that can't motivate you to continue to read and that's okay. Like you don't like the slow progress or just doesn't like artstyle. Story isn't sorrowful like 10 years I love you the most or a way of parting, but more like everyday struggles that could lead to depression and sadness.
the way i only made it to like 30 chapters because it was so... depressing. it drained the life out of me like a fucking dementor or something lmao. i loved it so much though. i wish i could read to the end but for the sake of my own mental health i had to stop :((
