I do personally think Aubrey's death was cruel (eventhough I hated her character)(but I guess it was fitting based on the systems and customs of their time). I definitely feel bad for the family, the mother did her best to raise her daughter but at the end of the day the child gets to choose to listen or to not.
Actually, I think killing Aubrey is actually merciful for the Duke. He would have killed her whole family because what she did was treason but instead he just killed her and stripped her famioy's title. She disrespected and even put the grand duchess at risk because of her so called love. She also said something about the secret passage that is very dangerous because if people who wanted to kill the duke or someone from their village heard about that, they could have killed his people without them knowing.
Her death is quick and painless. In the novel's setting, if Aubrey did that to another family, they would have imprisoned Aubrey and punished her and her whole family before killing them all. Even for other stories that were set historically, I could still say that the grand duke was merciful to the child.
Though I agree with you about her family, it's sad to see parents crying and pleading to just take their lives instead of killing their child. They were a great couple, it's just that they spoiled her too much coz she's the youngest and never thought that Aubrey could do that.
plus she was a liability to the stronghold. She didn't even realise the gravity of her crimes despite the fact that people lost lives. She has valuable classified information about the stronghold security and only cares about her short sighted desires and ambitions. And clearly, locking her away wasn't enough. It wasn't just a punishment. It was a calculated decision for the sake of the safety of everyone in the stronghold
At this point I know they gonna end up together whether I like it or not. So all I'm seeking is that he suffers a little. I like the way she cut the date seeing it was going nowhere. Plus if manz does not know what a Bungeoppang is!....that's just sad! He needs real relationship counseling and to go eat real street food
Totally enjoyed this!
But how could they not show us the smexy scene (it's fine anyways).
