You realise a series never 'becomes' yaoi. First of all, that's not the word you're looking for. There's no such thing as 'yaoi manga'--because yaoi is for non-official content that is based on canon material (so, yaoi doujinshi can exist, based on official content, but manga is just manga because it's original).
Go look on Amazon Japan and tell me how many things come up when you type in 'yaoi' :P I'll save you the trouble: it's nothing. Because that's not a word anyone uses. BL manga is BL manga is BL manga, and it's always JUST BL MANGA. A series isn't some weird 'shounen ai' genre (also not a real genre btw) until someone whips out his dick @__@
Under that logic, Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi, which has sex in about every chapter, would have been 'shounen ai' for like the first three chapters. When has Nakamura Shungiku ever written something that didn't have smut lol?
