*If you didn't start reading this manga, spoiler alert*
I'm really happy that they didn't end up with their fated pairs. If Taiga was the one who paired with Yuka during his first heat, I'm almost certain that he would've thrown Yuka away and made him miserable. Taiga was an ass when he was a student and didn't see omegas as people, so he would've paired with Yuka initially and then throw him away when he was no longer in heat. For Kaoru, he's always loved Yuka, so although their relationship wasn't fated/instinctual, their love made it work.
At first I was so upset at Rin for asking Yuka to give up Kaoru and to go on with his life without a mate. I was like "bitch get your own man". But after hearing his story and struggles I started to empathize with him. I'm glad that Rin failed at pairing with Kaoru, since even if he succeed, judging by Kaoru's character, after the initial fated pair instinct died down, Kaoru would choose Yuka over Rin, (or since Kaoru's kind he would care for Rin a bit, but not to the extent of his care for Yuka, and ultimately neglect him) thus making Rin miserable in the end. I was really happy that Taiga's character developed and he started to love and care for Rin. When Rin started getting memory loss, my heart broke, but I'm glad Taiga was able to continue to love him. When Rin saw Kaoru after memory loss and clung to Taiga instead and said this person loves me the most, I cannot, that was the most heartwarming but heartbreaking thing.
But anyways, this manga changed my opinion of fated pairs. Originally I thought that it sounded really romantic to have someone in the world that you're fated to be with. However after reading this, it made me realize that fated pairs in Omegaverse are more about instinct and pheromonal compatibility rather than emotional compatibility. Fated pairs are physically fated rather than emotionally fated.
When I started reading, I was like "oh God I'm probably going to hate this." but I'm glad I kept going. I like the mangaka's take on fated pairs vs emotional love. Although fated pairs exist and instinctually you want to chase that, it doesn't necessarily mean that you will be happy in the end. I'm looking forward to seeing how the story continues and develops/ends.
Well, if you read this whole essay, thanks for coming to my ted talk ( ̄▽ ̄'')
